  • Literally thousands of threads (here and elsewhere online) address the question of "when will Fenix 7 arrive". The answer is (and always has been, and always will be) that nobody, outside of Garmin, knows the answer.

It might happen next week. It might happen later this year. It might not happen until 2022 or even 2023. Nobody knows.

What I will say, is there were people here as far back as 18 months ago saying "I am holding off on buying a Fenix 6, because the Fenix 7 is coming any day now." I sometimes wonder if they're still waiting, still doing activities with no watch or just a crappy watch (for what, so they could save $100 in resale value?), or if they finally caved in, and are enjoying their Fenix 6's today.

So you have to ask yourself, do you want to be the guy/gal who sits around waiting indefinitely for something, or do you want to start enjoying it today?

In my point of view (and I recognize that not everyone has the same budget/wallet), if I did not have a Fenix 6 today, I would buy one today so that I can start using it TODAY, and not worry about its potential $100 or $150 resale depreciation until whenever Fenix 7 arrives someday in the future. For me, it's absolutely worth that risk; others might prefer to just be without a watch for months on end, than risk wasting a little money.

  • Advantages of waiting one or two years after introduction of a new model: better chances of obtaining a used one or a good deal on a new one, it has 'matured', it is mostly known what the final functionality is because most enhancements by software upgrades have been done, and there's experience shared here.

I usually wait until people start upgrading to the new model so I can buy a used previous model. This time I got tired of waiting for the Fenix 7 though. And what C.sco said: why not enjoy today?

  • Price history for the 6X Pro, as an example, might suggest that stocks are getting cleared for something new. It has been two years since release, so not improbable. This is Amazon UK pricing.

  • imo there is no point of waiting if you don't have anything right now.

I don't think there will  be a massive difference between 6x and 7x. Sure news HR sensor (it's mostly useless anyway, and you need HR strap), new CPU and GPU that will give you some fancy new animations, quicker course calculation and probably better battery.

As a gift you will get tons of new bugs (it's garmin after all). I've bought 6x pro 3 months ago and it's very good -  good for next 3-5 years.

All of the watches you link to are great watches, but do they meet your needs?  You should buy a watch that already has all the features you want.  Do not wait for some anticipated future feature that may never materialize.  If any (or maybe all) of the watches you linked to currently offers all the features you want, then you should feel confident to buy it.

  • Garmin (and Garmin retailers) don't usually "clear inventory" to make room for new models, as Garmin typically continues making and selling the previous model for months, or even years afterwards. Look at the 5 Plus for example, you could still buy those new on Garmin's website until just last year, and at Best Buy and other retailers until just a couple months ago - I think some might still be selling it.

  • The first 2 are  6X pro solar with titanium bands and priced about right .. size 51mm. The white one is a 6 pro solar so smaller at 47mm and is priced far too high for a silicon strap. Solar adds very little/nothing to the watch so I would go fro either a 6 or a 6X depending on which size looks best on you, always the  pro version and then it is personal preference on the colour black /grey /blue/ etc. and the type of strap. Major retailers like sports and electronic shops, at least in Australia, have 6 pro and 6 x pro  going for under $ 1000, but have limited colour options
