football app recomendation

Hi,

Since there is nothing from Garmin itself, what is your recommendation for football application (indoor, without GPS)? Right now i am using treadmill activity with HR strap to get my HR measured correctly.

I do not need any fancy data fields, nor timers, scores etc. Just calories + load, and accurate distance if possible

  • Cardio would be fine to get calories + load, but not distance (I think). "Hike" with GPS off might work to get distance from the watch accelerometers, but not likely to be very accurate. With a foot pod that might be a bit better, but foot pods are made to work with regular movements, and so will also not yield good results when you're turning or kicking a ball a lot.

  • Thank You Sir.

I'll try Cardio next time to see if there is any difference. Using foot pod  is not an option unfortunately.

  • Unfortunately you won’t accurate distance. You might get some distance generated from the accelerometer in the watch but that is unlikely to be accurate. Best you can expect for indoor activities is obtaining physiological metrics from the Cardio activity.

  • Hi,

I'm facing the same problem. Using HRM Pro which gives you roughly distance (with latest firmware) would be ok for me, way better then using GPS which is not close to accurate. Generic sport with GPS off does not track distance. Indoor running (treadmill or track) would work I guess, but it messing up running stats that are auto-synced to other systems.

So has anybody found a good way to work around this?

I personally think it's ridiculous garmin even promotes "Team Sport Features" with their belt but doesn't offer anything to support common team sports properly...

  • You can use the the Running activity profile (or a copy of it). Either disable GPS in the activity settings, or set the option Sensors & Accessories » HRM-Pro » HRM Pace & Distance » Use for Pace » Always, to have the distance estimated by the strap.

You could also use the Tennis activity, if available on your F6, or one of the many available Connect IQ apps for football / soccer.

  • In connect iq there is Any sport pro, it has at least american football...

  • As mentioned I do not want to use any 'running' type, copying does not work atm as of this strange 60 sports limit where all defaults are counted... (hopefuly increased at next sw release like announced)

All apps I saw are either crappy or do not sync with strip for some reason :/

Honestly my feeling is it would be very easy for garmin to have a generic team sport profile or introduce a setting to enable/disable distance on an own activity (not tied strictly to gps setting).

Tennis can be an option though (I play and track it, but not that interested in those stats) . Need to try (and sorry for the rant ;)

    Thanks for the answer

  • Wow, that one looks good.

Will try today, thanks for the hint

  • As mentioned I do not want to use any 'running' type,

You can also use Walking or Hiking

copying does not work atm as of this strange 60 sports limit where all defaults are counted..

Cannot test it, since my watch does not have this limitation, but try copying the activity profile file directly on the storage, in the folder //GARMIN/Sports - it may be able to bypass the limitation (at least it works in some other similar cases - for example for Workouts). Just create a copy of the running profile, and then edit it on the watch as needed.

All apps I saw are either crappy or do not sync with strip for some reason :/

Well, you have to choose - either football or strip bars. I recommend the striptease after the football, it does not always work well in the same time Smiley

BTW, there is also the app F3b Sports+ | Garmin Connect IQ supporting football

And some other ones could perhaps help too: Connect IQ Store | Free Watch Faces and Apps | Garmin

Honestly my feeling is it would be very easy for garmin to have a generic team sport profile or introduce a setting to enable/disable distance on an own activity (not tied strictly to gps setting).

We cannot help you with this, here on the forum. I suggest submitting the request at Share Ideas | Garmin

  • Thanks for the answer. Tried copying it to sports and also new files dir (mentioned also in forum). Did not work for me, will need to wait for the 21.80 getting released that will increase limit to 75 .

But just got back from a game and tried the prev mentioned any sports app. Worked great and is exactly what i was looking for. Already donated :)

So as I don't have further need to use it for other team sports with maybe lot of different settings I am fine.

Thanks again, really appreciate all the ideas and your will to help!
