Difference between active calories and activity calories

So after looking at different things by the Garmin community I’m completely and utterly confused about active calories and calories burned in an activity. All I would like to be able to do is look at my watch and see the number of calories I have burned from movement. Not my normal calories burned from simply living. And ae for activity calories when I look at a activity and it says for example 566 calories that isn’t what I actually actively burned is it ? Were would I see what I actively burned during that activity/is it added onto the active calories?

  • The calories reported for a recorded activity are gross and include you're BMR calories for the elapsed time of the activity. For example, a one hour bike ride might show 600 total calories burned. This might be about 80 BMR calories for one hour of life plus 520 active calories for the effort.

When you look at your daily calorie totals you BMR calories are reported separately from your active calories. Active calories reported here will be the net active calories from your activities plus any miscellaneous activity calories determined from raised heart rate or general movement.

  • Were would I see what I actively burned during that activity/is it added onto the active calories?

As tiger said: calories widget on watch reports active and "burned by simply living" calories separately, in red and blueish color. However, sadly, you can't have active calories number shown on a watch face (at least I don't know how), only net calories which are sum of active and bmr.

  • It is used to be active calories only but with the latest round of FW they went to a total of active and metabolic calories. Same change was done on the Edge device There is pros and cons either way. But since that number is useful to manage your nutrition during a long activity having both included is not a bad thing since you need to eat for both types. I can live with it either way but t would be nice that it gets better documented.

  • Thanks! So the active calories widget is what calories I’ve burner by movement and not by living. And when I’ve done an activity it will show calories burned and calories I burn by living. So to see how many calories I’ve actually burned during an activity will it be added to the active calorie widget ?
