I am not that interested in reps and weight I do general full body strength training sessions with bands and trx and want to capture that somehow. Am I missing out on something by not capturing more detail other than just time and heart rate?

You're not missing out on any metrics, BUT I really hate that Garmin doesn't allow users to edit or add exercises in Connect and we're stuck with their limited list to choose from. I have a list of 41 TRX/suspension type exercises I use and it would be great if I could track what exercises I did other than label the workout upper, lower or total body. I've been submitting this request for years now with no luck.
