Are newer features coming to Fenix 6?

Hello,

I'm a F6 user and I'm interested in some of the new features recently published, but absent in F6.

As Chris replies in Fitness Age 2.0 thread:

"When a new feature is just introduced in a new product in the Fitness segment, such as the Fitness Age 2.0 that is seen in the new Forerunner 945/LTE models and interest is shown in it arriving in the Fenix series, we are happy to pass it along to our engineers for consideration."

Is there a chance it comes to Fenix 6 as well? How about HIIT, eBike and other profiles? Any chance they're introduced as software update for Fenix 6 when Fenix 7 is released?

How did Garmin treat the watches historically?

  • Based on history, I would expect new features in a soon to be released fenix 7 - September has always been a good month for new watch announcements.  Some of the new features may be appended to fenix 6 software, but all the really good new stuff will be exclusive to the fenix 7.

Of course, just like all the other opinions on this, mine is worthless as well - we'll have to wait and see.

  • On Fitness 2.0 specifically, I own an F6 and see it in the iOS Connect app as described in the other thread. Sorry to not be directly answering your question but thought worth mentioning since the other thread is strangely locked.

  • Indeed, same here, i see the fitness age in my Ios app like in the video. I have seen that for a while now.

  • How did Garmin treat the watches historically?

As in the past with other watches, Garmin have been adding new features to the F6 since launch. However, there comes a time when adding new features ceases. It's probably close to that point now.

  • Given the 6 series keeps being offered at discounted prices by Garmin odds on are it is close the end of it's development cycle and we can expect to see the 7 or whatever either in time for Xmas season or later in 2022.

  • It would be a lot of easier and with fenix useres friendly for Garmin if they tell us, no this new features wont be coming to fenix 6 or yes this new futures will come and they are in development right now. As simple as that. But now Garmin is silent, so ther is a lot of guessing and anger.

  • It would be a lot of easier and with fenix useres friendly for Garmin if they tell us, no this new features wont be coming to fenix 6

They won’t do that, if for no other reason than some new features may support sales of a new accessory they sell (think dog tracking devices Wink), so it’s worth updating software in older devices to support the sales of new accessories. Being less cynical, they do seem to still push the odd new feature or CIQ update to the Fenix 5+ and even Fenix 5 (I find this out when I drag them out of the drawer, to do the occasional sync and charge). So, I don’t honestly think Garmin could do anything other than be vague about the prospects of new features on the Fenix 6 once a newer Fenix does emerge.

  • Why? Most everything purchased is sold with a set of features with no indication of what might indeed if anything, be added. How many of us buy something because we expect features to be added? It’s a recipe for disaster buying in the hope that something will be added.

Be happy with what was there when purchased. Be happier still when something is added.

  • Exactly. I bought my Fenix 6 back when it was on Firmware 2.xx or 3.xx. I was perfectly happy buying it with only those features it had at the time. In the time since then, countless features have been added, which is great.

To someone who has owned this watch for 2 years now, it amuses me when people complain about a new feature possibly not being added. Those people clearly don't know how far these watches have progressed since they came out. I suspect it's mostly people who just bought the watch in the last few weeks who are complaining.

In any case, you're absolutely correct that it's insane to buy a product that doesn't have all the features you want, under the assumption that they might get added someday. A smarter consumer would wait until a product has everything they want, and buy it then. Or, decide that you'll buy it now without all the features you wanted, with the assumption that you may never get all the features you hoped for - but if you pick that option, then you don't really have room to complain on internet forums about it.

  • Don't know if newer versions are to come, but my experience is that I just lost my Garmin X6 surfing and I did not even notice it. Just had it for one year and I was not even surprised to loose it, since just few weeks after buying it, it fell off already once. Obviously the straps are not properly fixed to the watch, with the fast-clams. That's an office watch with some sports features, but certainly not an adventure watch, be careful!
