Brand new Fenix 6 pro - backlight not working, now won't connect to the app

This is just one big downer tbh. I was really looking forward to trying out smartwatches. I've had it for less than 24h and have hit two really irritating problems.

First, the backlight decided it would go onto the lowest setting across the board and can't be changed. I've looked at the power management, there is no battery saver on, and I've set the highest backlight across all settings possible. As a side note, the gesture control has never worked - I've never seen it work anyway.

So I decided I would try to reset the watch through the settings. Now it refuses to connect to the Garmin Connect app. It finds the watch, tries, but the pairing fails every time. Last I checked, the battery was at 30%, but I'll charge it up now in case that sorts things out.

Any advice on how to hard reset? I can't get past the "Go to mobile app to add device screen" and I can barely read the text in the first place because the backlight is still not working!!

So frustrating after paying a small fortune for my first Garmin product.
