Timer : hour in tiny size after in case of activity of more than an hour

Honestly I'm the first to criticize Garmin as they mess something up. Here I won't.

That number changes every hour: you definitely don't have to look at it that often. Being an avid hiker I often run activities for 4 hours or more, and it never bothered me.

I agree.  The clear advantage of this design is that it leaves the minutes and seconds in as large a font as possible.

but when you run races lasting several hours you don't give a damn about the seconds. On the other hand you are in a state of fatigue which means that you can no longer remember if you are in your 4th or 5th or 6th hour of the race ... and the terrain being difficult you cannot spend time looking at your watch to see this tiny number, the information must be instantaneous. Is there no one at Garmin who can understand that ?? I can not believe. I have talked about it around me and all the people who do long runs agree with me, it is so ridiculous to have done this, I am hesitating to return my fenix 6X Pro to Garmin

I'm sure someone has the solution, it's not possible otherwise.

Don't get me wrong, I don't agree with you but I totally respect your opinion. I just don't think it's unusable nor I think people that run for more than an hour suffer that size as much a you do, that's it.

I may suggest to either look for other custom data fields with just hour and minutes, no seconds at all. Maybe one exists, I don't know.

Want a really silly layout? Look at the inReach data page whily tracking a route. Everything between 1h0' and 1h59' is shown as 1h, and it has pleeeenty of space to show minutes as well.

As an ultra-runner, I am also annoyed by this behavior. I care more about hours than about seconds. I'd prefer if Garmin has given me a choice. Whoever designed this has no idea how the watch is used by some of the users.

And no, displaying time of day doing doing a math in your head as suggested by gaijin isn't a solution.

Same here. Up to marathon distance it's fine, I'll know roughly how long I've been going & the tiny hour marker isn't a problem. Out beyond 7 hours or so I want that reading as simple as possible, my mental focus won't be as good. I use Single Field which doesn't do this in the timer sub field. Not ideal if you want two other Connect IQ fields, though.

I run multi hour events. Doesn't bother me. It's still big enough to read. If you use a route, I'm not sure if the navigation screens do this mind.

Just looked at a video I took - and the time elapsed shown on the altitude graph does not do the smaller hours thing. So there is that.
