The stats my watch produces esp regarding load

Hi. I have been having some Achilles issues and cut my running back a bit. However I have been trying to follow some of the runs my watch suggests. Yesterday it suggested Base 42 min at 9.40 min pace. I did that but averaged faster than that slightly but one mile was 8.30.

the route map then displayed all the run as blue - slow - even though one mile was 1.20 faster than another. Also the load came back as 85 with 3 aerobic and zero anaerobic. A previous longer run a month or so ago - 6miles rather than 4 1/2 gave me a load of 400 with aerobic and anaerobic of 5 - despite it being hotter yesterday and both runs being a similar pace. The earlier run having some faster sections identified by colour yet none were 8.30 pace miles.

the watch says I am detraining, losing fitness and the VO2 max has gone down. Clearly this annoys me!!! Haha.

I don’t get why the loaf of any recent run seems to have dropped off a Cliff.

any ideas - thanks.

  • Hi. I have been having some Achilles issues and cut my running back a bit.

the watch says I am detraining, losing fitness and the VO2 max has gone down.

    And you are surprised?

However a load of 400 with a TE of 5 and 5 suggests that something was wrong with the HR data from your earlier run, or your HRMax settings (my guess is the former - a loose watch strap is a classic cause), and should not be used as a serious point of comparison. Just let that wash out of the system, and look at what the watch is reporting going forward from here.

  • That’s interesting  thanks. The strap is neither tight or loose but I am conscious to keep it consistent.

  • The watch can potentially move on your wrist with each arm swing while running, allowing external light to enter the sensor in a rhythmic way, and the sensor can lock on to your cadence rather than your heart rate. This "cadence lock" will tend to overestimate HR for most people. I find I have to have the watch 1-2 notches tighter for accurate HR while running, than I do for 24/7 monitoring.
