Notification Replies (Pixel 5)

I've recently upgraded to a Pixel 5, and I can't get notification replies from my Fenix 6 Pro to work reliably.

They seem to work if I have the phone unlocked, and Connect (or Hangouts - I'm testing with that) open, but if the phone is locked then although my Fenix 6 displays the "Reply Sent" confirmation, no reply is actually sent.

I've tried disabling all the battery optimisation stuff, still no joy though. It all worked as expected with my previous phone.

Please double check all of your Android settings locations that will impact your smart notifications. There are multiple layers of setup for Android OS.

Since your watch is sending the reply back to Android OS and it stops there, Google Product Support may be able to provide further settings or security settings suggestions on why Android is not pushing…

Hi,

Thanks - I receive all my notifications perfectly. But using the replies doesn't work. I get the "Reply Sent" confirmation when I select a response through the menus, but no reply gets sent.

Since your watch is sending the reply back to Android OS and it stops there, Google Product Support may be able to provide further settings or security settings suggestions on why Android is not pushing the reply through SMS. Given you have a brand new Google Pixel and Google releases the newest version of Android to their Pixel phones first, we may be looking at a new compatibility issue with a newest version of Android. If Google doesn't have any suggestions that resolve the odd behavior, please highlight my name and send me a Private Message. I will be happy to assist further.

Hmm, I think hangouts might be special.

I've tested a little harder, and SMS replies seem to work reliably. So does Google Chat.

Yes, I think Google Chat works, and Google Hangouts does not. So... I guess if anyone else has the same problem, it's time to switch over.
