No Training Status and Zwift

Just got my Fenix 6 Pro at the end of June. I rode Zwift the first couple of days I owned it and was happy to see my training status updated after the second ride. I run Zwift on an iPad connected to a Wahoo Kickr Core and a Wahoo Tickr HR strap. I didn’t connect the watch to anything and wasn’t even wearing the watch while doing my Zwift workouts (I usually take advantage of that hour to charge the watch). I was on vacation last week and now I have a “no status” for my training status. I have ridden multiple times in the past week trying to get it to update, but I have had no luck.

Has anyone else seen this change? I have found instructions from others that say you need to dual record Zwift and Garmin to get training status updates, but that is not how it was working for me when I initially got the watch. Does anyone have any solution?

  • I have been dual recording to Zwift and Garmin for several years. Recently I did test out recording to Zwift only and synching from Zwift to Garmin, but within three days I realised that I was missing out on some Firstbeat data on the Garmin ecosystem so I've reverted to dual recording again.

If you were happy with your original setup then double check that the sync from Zwift to Garmin is still working. Maybe break and remake the connection if not. Otherwise I'm afraid I have no answers. You could always try Garmin Support. Try chat or phone. Emails can take days or end up ignored entirely.

  • There was a change some time back and after that i got training status from zwift. It worked great, the watch  even calculated v02max and i also did not wear the watch and charged it while riding. This seems to be broken for ~a week now. At least all this metrics do not show up anymore on the watch. Seems like they reverted back to before the initial change which enabled it....

  • Mr Clown, I guess this was my question. It was working just fine for me, and then all of a sudden it stopped. I can’t find “release notes/update notes/we changed stuff notes” or anything on the garmin side that indicate a change. Where is the best place to look for that? Or is it just behind the scenes magic that isn’t communicated?

  • Eezytiger, I guess I am just not sure how dual recording would work with the iPad. I don’t know that I can connect the trainer to both the watch and the iPad with Bluetooth. Do you mind sharing what you do to dual record and how you have it setup? I have been riding Zwift for quite a while and I’m just now getting into this realm of making it work with garmin.

  • I dual record using an iPad to Rouvy using a Tacx Vortex Smart 2. I have Rouvy connected to the Tacx to control the trainer and an HRM-Pro connected to Rouvy over the bluetooth channel.

My watch is connected to the trainer for Power only (no speed/cadence and no Trainer connection for control), speed and cadence coming from separate ANT+ Garmin sensors on the bike, and the HRM-Pro over ANT+. The watch syncs the completed activity to Garmin. Rouvy syncs the completed activity to Strava.

No idea if this would work with Zwift but can't see why now. Just ensure that only connection is made to the trainer for control.

  • Great thanks! Sounds like I just need to sit and play with it more to get the dual record to work. For the life of me I could t get the Bluetooth connection “map” to work in my head.

  • I use a Windows PC and ANT+ for all connections, so there is no device limit. Similar to Philip, Zwift outputs my ride data to Strava and the Garmin data stays just within Garmin.

In this way Strava reflects the simulated ride experience, with speed, distance, elevation gain and segments just as they would have been in the outdoor world. Garmin is used to track the physiological impact on me - training load, VO2max, FTP, recovery, calories, load balance etc etc..

My trainer is a Tacx Neo 2 and I use a Garmin HRM-PRO chest strap, so all bases and needs are covered even if I did want to use Bluetooth.
