Concept 2 bike connection how to for idiots like me?

Just got a bike erg with a pm5.

Tought connecting would be a breeze...

Tried and it says I am travelling at light speed...

We have 4 sensors ant+ and bluetooth seems to be an option...wich to choose?

Its a bit confusing....please help

  • It's easy - I do this every day!

First, I assume you are using a chest HRM, so Pair that using ANT+ to your fenix 6 first.

Then, on the PM5, from the Main Menu select CONNECT

Select CONNECT HR and select the ANT+ option offered to you on the next screen and connect your chest HRM to the PM5

On the PM5 go back to the Main Menu select CONNECT

    Select OTHER ANT+ OPTIONS

Select (check box on the right) ANT+ PWR and connect that to your fenix 6

Select ANT+ SPD/CAD and connect that to your fenix 6

You are all connected and will see workouts in Garmin Connect Web that look like this easy Recovery ride I took this morning: BikeErg Recovery Ride

Further assumption is you are using the Indoor Bike App.  Also, make sure your PM5 has the latest software (use the Concept2 Utility software on your PC)

I also use the ErgData App on my iPhone to automatically enter my workouts in the Concept2 Log Book.

NOTE: After this initial setup, your HRM, PWR and SPD/CAD sensors will all automatically connect every time you turn on the PM5 and stage a Bike Indoor Activity on your fenix 6 - no need to go through the pairing process again.

  • Great that we have the same tools....so you will be able to help moi.

I tried the other sensors before...

Just a quick question...yesterday I downloaded erg iq.

Went to activity button on fenix and clicked on erg iq....the watch replicated the bike erg screen perfect it also asked to pair at this point a sensor (i said yes).

With this mode (erg iq) everything is ok.

I stopped the activity on the bike by pressing menu and the watch starting saving the activity.

Question 1 : can train load and vo2max be recorded by watch using erg iq? (Is it seemsless?)

Question 2: decided to try bike indoor profile at this point...everything was out of wack...(light speed mode all over again???

    Thanks for your help

    I bought this for sprints

  • You are beyond my knowledge with the ErgIQ App - I always thought of that 5 year old App as a kind of band-aid to make up for lack of connectivity between Concept 2 and Garmin devices.  Since the introduction of the latest versions of software for the PM5, third-party Apps like ErgIQ are no longer necessary.

Question 1: I don't know, but if you save an activity with ErgIQ, what does the activity summary look like on Garmin Connect Web?  Do you see training Load?  Do you see a cycling VO2 Max value? How about all the other metrics as shown in the activity I linked to in my post above?  If so, then you should be good to go.

Question 2: My best guess is that with all the sensors you have tried, you may still have the ANT+ FE-C sensor on the PM5 connected to your fenix 6 - this will completely confuse the results shown in the Bike Indoor App.  It is important that the only sensors connected with the Bike Indoor App are external HRM, ANT+PWR, and ANT+SPD/CAD.

Again, please make sure your PM5 has the latest software - this is very important.

Also please note that you can configure the data fields on the various available Bike Indoor data screens to show virtually any combination of available data you want.

  • Tried with erg iq...crap .  Will start again...following your advice...ill update or message you in private if you dont mind

  • Ok!!!

    Deleted erg iq

    Deleted all the sensors

Followed to a T your instructions and bam!

    Everything is a1

The first is the power ant+ second ant+ cad speed

Bluetooth sensor is screwy ...needs to be ant+

    Thanks

  • You're very welcome.  Glad you got it sorted!
