Active calories are from all activity that day, whether recorded or just casual movement that raises your heart rate.
Resting calories are essentially fixed for each day, based on calculations from weight, height, sex, age and possibly your activity class. Unless you change any of those parameters your resting calories will remain the same from one day to the next. Anything in addition is from all activity like climbing stairs, walking the dog, running, gym, cycling, mowing the grass etc..
If you go to Garmin Connect on the web you can list all your recorded activities on a single page and alter the column contents to include calories. You will have to add up totals manually, but at least you can see the data you need displayed on a single screen. It might be difficult to see on a phone though. Tablet or PC/laptop would be best.
Connect website - reports - all activities - activity calories - can see total for the day, and the bar chart shows split for each type of activity for that day/ week/ month/year. And or Reports - progress summary - make sure you have activty calories ticked to show in summary, and then use filters for activity/time period etc.
