Does anyone know in week five of the Galloway have training program why it would be saying that I need to do a long run of 11 miles? In week five?

Because it will make you fitter? Remember the advice is to do this at a really easy pace (you can calculate).
What is the context (previous longest run). I would guess it might be something like 9 miles 2 or 3 weeks earlier?
iirc, Galloway advocates the run/walk method. The long run of 11 miles will not be 11 miles of running - there will be a good proportion of walking in there too.
That is correct and the proportion of walking is quite high unless you are rather fast. Accidentally switched between steady running and run-walk for the long run has led me to believe that run-walk is significantly better for fitness. This alone makes the Galloway plan worthwhile. (The speed repeats sessions though seem to have the wrong pace/interval/repetitions, as many others also seem to think!)
