Fenix 6 Pro Sapphire issues with slow speed on high altitude

Hello guys,

I have this fenix for almost a year. It is the 2nd one I did change over warranty for the same issue.

When I am on hiking and climbing some mountain in heights over 1500m and with very slow speed it stops totally recording any speed. It shows just 0 km/h.

If I turn it off and on will start again but for some seconds only. When I will start downhill and go to lower altitudes and with higher speed will start normally show me speed and distance.

Actually I think it records distance when I see the route later on in the Garmin webpage. But it shows 0 speed when u are on the route (cannot estimate any time of arrival in navigation), does not show the grade etc. It makes it totally useless on mountains.

As I said this is the 2nd watch and I am not sure they can do anything in Garmin about it. I am not even sure they believe it has such an issue as it is very difficult for them to check it....

Any hints will be appreciated because I am ready to change it for a Suunto 9.

so will show pace instead of speed right?

But it will take some time since i can try it. it is not that i can go very often on high altitudes.

Turn autopause off.

The two things are strictly correlated. The reason why autopause should be turned off is because the sensibility of Fenix regarding speed is very low, so when you're moving at low speeds it thinks you're still and autopauses. Even if autopause is off, it thinks your speed is lower that 60 min per km (1 km/h) which is its lower limit.

I think it's not your watch which is faulty. All of them are.

thanks.. this is what i was afraid of. but the issue is that even if i start hiking faster after a climb, lets say more than 2km it continues show 0 speed, like it is stuck. I will need either to restart it or start walk more than 4km/h in lower altitude. then will start show speed.

I am thinking if has some fault and mixes the different modes. so for example although in hiking Autopause is set to OFF, in running is not etc.

Anyway so suunto is the only option i guess.

Hello, I have got a very similar issue. At this time i used the ski touring activity but i think it's the same thing.

Yes, this version is only Pace. Next version will have alternatives for Speed.
