Fenix 6 Series - 17.72 Public Beta

Hello Fenix 6 customers,

Edit (6/17 12:30 PM): Non-Pro models: We have identified a crash that occurs when scrolling past a CIQ widget, if the Widget Glances setting is enabled. For now, you can avoid this crash by simply disabling the Widget Glance setting (via Menu - Widgets). Our teams are working to resolve this issue as soon as we can. I apologize for the inconvenience.

At this time, we believe that Pro models are not affected by this crash.

Our next beta version for the Fenix 6 series is now available!

Please ensure that you are downloading the correct beta software for your specific device.

Instructions for installation are available below the change log on each of the above pages.

  • Is there any fix for the step/distance logging in Apple Health in those Connect IQ bug fixes?

  • I don’t see the Bluetooth updated. Does this mean that yet again the headphone disconnection issue has not been fixed?

  • Any chance the new weather widget layout from the 945 LTE will be updated on the fenix 6 Series?
And the HIIT profile from the Venu 2?

  • Updated Intensity Minutes determinations to align with guidance from CDC.

It looks like there are two new screens in the Intensity minutes. Well, at least from My Day -> Intensity Minutes

First screen shows the weekly total and then today's total intensity minutes, as well as a graph of intensity minutes since midnight.
Second screen shows weekly intensity minutes along with a LINE graph that shows intensity minutes over the week as well as number labels that signify how many intensity minutes were gained on each day. Used to only be a bar graph and I don't think it showed the specific numbers before.
Third screen shows how many moderate intensity minutes and vigorous intensity minutes you have, and shows the addition ( This was here on 16.70 and before)
Fourth screen shows how many more minutes you need to reach goal in moderate and vigorous. (This was here on 16.70 and before)

  • I edited my original post because it was unnecessarily combative and I was responding having read that kJ work was direct conversion to kCal burned, which is not true at all.

That said, I don't think HR is a meaningfully specific proxy for work done for various reasons (e.g., lag, correlation with prior efforts during rides, alcohol and caffeine consumption, etc.). During a ride, I suspect it's very difficult to separate the incremental physiological calorie cost (since you're not doing any work) and the oxygen debt (even mid-ride) that your cardiovascular system is trying to get rid of. I would prefer my calorie estimates on the conservative side.

  • I think you're the one with no idea what you're talking about. If your heart rate is 190 after an all out effort and you take a minute to not die and/or coast downhill, Garmin traditionally counts that minute as 0 calories burned because it doesn't detect power from the power meter. That is physiologically impossible. They've been making efforts on other devices to address this issue, and now it looks like it's coming to Fenix as well

  • One question, as I can't find an answer to this anywhere here in forums:

I have a Fenix 6 Sapphire, which would be the matching beta firmware?

Is it then the one for  Fenix 6 Pro ?

  • Added the ability to rate the perceived effort and feel of a Run, Bike, or Swim activity. The prompts appear during activity save. Go to [Activity] Settings > Self Evaluation for options.

It not works on my F6 pro. There were no any promts appeared after saving cycling activity today. The value was default "Workouts only".

  • I have a Fenix 6 Sapphire, which would be the matching beta firmware?

Is it then the one for  Fenix 6 Pro ?

Yes, the Sapphire is a pro model.

  • The value was default "Workouts only".

But did you click the top right button to see the options- Off, Workouts Only, Always?

If you don’t change to Always then you will only see the prompt if you follow a workout with steps as opposed to just doing an activity.
