personally focus much more on my training status etc than my VO2 max.
Interval training.
For me, I just run more. And if you want the number to go up, just run hard at the beginning of the run, then in the mid and end of the run, push the fastest pace you can without blowing up or hurting yourself. haha

I'm finding that long runs in zone 2 have been steadily but slowly increasing my V02 max.
Also I only do V02 max runs 1 or 2 times a week. The other running days I use trail run with the V02 max setting turned off. That way I dont worry about my pace or heart rate, I just go for it.
Try Norwegian intervals. 10 minutes warmup, then 4 minutes fast running at around 90% of max hr, then 3 minutes active rest, repeat 3 more times. Then cooldown.
Your VO2 max will never increase unless you exceed your maximum heart rate. Exercising below the VO2max HR only increases heart volume and oxygen circulation, but not CONSUMPTION.
If you increase the gas tank, the car will not go faster.
