6x Pro Stuck in Loop after 16.60 upgrade

Hi,

Woke up one morning to see 6x Pro strangely dead when had a decent charge night before

Once charged it,  could see 16.60 update had been made and then got stuck in a loop with "Audio prompt software was updated"  and this then continues to update, restart and update in an endless loop until it has insufficient battery.

I've tried soft reset, hard reset, hard reset with start and back keys held down and released one by one after each beep, connecting to Garmin Express and Garmin Connect Mobile, reinstalling 16.60 via webupdater.

None make any difference, and since watch was purchased in Sep 2019, out of warranty. Never had a problem with it up till then. Can't even get an answer out of Garmin though it's only been 3 days so far...

Any other options other than return to Garmin...assuming they actually respond at some point ?

  • I don't know where in the world you live, but in Europe and UK you have two years warranty.

Regarding lack of response from Garmin, I usually use online chat or pick up the phone. That way I get immediate response and can have a proper discussion rather than playing email ping-pong, with days between replies.

  • Thanks for the advice - I spoke to Garmin UK. Originally purchased via Amazon US (am in India).

After asking lots of detailed questions about what was happening and what I'd tried, they said this issue is  to do with 16.60 update and  has already been recognised : they are working on a fix. Hopefully the fix will be notified soon and am on the email list for the update...

  • Not looking good. I called again as heard nothing for several weeks. GarminSupport now say it is unlikely (though not 100% certain) that there is a  fix and they are now starting to recall affected watches. As mine is out of warranty, unclear what Garmin will do though supposedly at some point they will get in contact. But no idea when or what the proposed solution will be (if any). Does anyone have any good ideas ? It's pretty frustrating that Garmin pretty much  accepts the updated killed the watch, but don't seem to be any hurry to resolve.

  • In the end, had to pay about USD 200 for replacment unit through them which took 2 months to arrive. Worked fine for a few weeks then last night the backlight failed. Restarting fixed it. But after 1 cardio workout, button response slowed down to almost 10 secs after pressing. Turned off and since then won't restart, tried all the resets, plugging in via different methods. Any ideas /
