It typically will show between 300 and 400 depending on intensity and duration.
How can I change this or prevent it from happening again?
My watch is telling me I'm in "recovery" because of this.
Thanks everyone.

I don't think you can prevent it, as you are not doing anything wrong - it's not user error.
They have been quite a few recent threads regarding Training Load being incorrect, although it usually seems to be 0.
Also - just on another note, you really should not be getting a training load of 300 / 400 from an 8 mile run at that average HR, I think you need to check your maximum heart rate is correct, I suspect it's set too low.
Max heart rate is 190. I'm a bigger guy running in hilly areas so I figured that the load was accurate.

I agree, that number (as well as the Aerobic Training Effect of 5.0) seems waaay too high to me, for an 8.7 mile run with only 600ft of elevation gain, with an average HR of only 158bpm. With those stats, even considering you are a bigger guy, I would expect the training load to be in the 175-250 range, with an aerobic training effect in the high 3's or low 4's. I think you have something configured wrong - your body size, or your training level, etc.
Nevertheless, obviously your training load wasn't 1, either, so something certainly went wrong on the watch. I would just keep an eye on it and see if the problem happens again, or if it was just a one-time glitch
Thanks for the reply. I ran again today, about 7 miles with a load of 249. My weight, height, and max heart rate are correct. I could change my activity class from 7 to 8 or 9 since I am exercising every day, but I can't think of anything else. I'm 6' and 190 lbs.
I don't think activity class matters.
It was wrong of me to consider your figures high as you can't really compare between runners - your figures looked high to me, for example my long Sunday run is around 15 miles in 2 hours, and I get a training load of about 300. But my maximum heart rate and running heart rate are lower than yours and you are taller and heavier, and HR obviously is used in the load calculation and probably weight too, so I don't think what is high for me is high for you.
I would still pay attention to the Over-Reaching 5.0 status though.
