Fenix3 HR not chargning

Hi,

Just wondering if anyone is as ancient as me and still rocking a Fenix 3 HR as I need some advise and help.

Today my fenix 3 hr decided it will stop charging. Won't charge when connected to a computer to a usb charger. It starts to charge and shows me the charge screen then stops.

In fact it flashes the charge screen about 4 or 5 times and stops. Watch functions as normal just won't charge.

What are the changes this is a faulty cable? Would it be worth buying a replacement off ebay for about $20 or should I send it into Garmin to get it inspected?

  • Have you cleaned the contactors (the plug) with an old toothbrush for example ? It makes miracles !

  • This thread is for Fenix 6

  • This thread is for Fenix 6

Sure, but since Garmin decided to trash ALL forums for "legacy" watches, there is no forum for fenix 3 - or fenix 2 and the original fenix for that matter.  Given that, I'm happy to indulge legacy owners to post in any of the available forums.  If you find that unacceptable, where do you suggest the OP seek out peer opinions on the Garmin forums?

  • If cleaning the contacts on the watch and charger doesn't resolve it, the next thing I would try is a new charger cable. Looking on Amazon, I see there are lots of companies still making and selling them for under $10.

  • The flashing is my biggest worry. Regardless of what Fenix series we are talking about, what has been said in this thread is good information. Cleaning the contacts with isopropyl alcohol or gently and carefully with a toothbrush, both work well. However, the flashing may signify an issue unrelated to the battery directly.

What has worked the best for me personally working with customers over many years, is trying the following:

    - Cleaning the contacts: Cleaning the Battery Contacts on a Rechargeable Garmin Watch

    - Test with another charging cable if possible

    - When plugged into charging, if you see no charge, hold down your top left button for about 30-45 seconds.

If your watch is still not charging, you have done everything you can.

  • I just acquired an used fenix 3hr and came here for the same reason as the OP. For anyone experiencing this issue, go into settings and change USB mode from Garmin to Mass Storage. This fixed it for me and charging indicator screen popped up straight away.

  • Hello Thank you for your reply. The forums threads for the Fenix 3 series have been archived. So forums support for this device is no longer available. For this reason, I am going to lock this thread. However, if you have concerns about your watch, you can still visit the Garmin Support center.
