Garmin Tactix Delta Solar release cycles

Hi All,

I am in the market of purchasing a Tactix Delta Solar and was wondering if I should buy now or should I wait for a new model coming out.
The watch was released in Jan 2020 sometime from memory without the solar and I'm not entirely sure when the solar edition sapphire came out.

I've searched online but release cycles aren't really published very much.

Does anyone know when exactly the Tactix Delta Solar Sapphire was released?

What's the usual lifecycle for these before its upgraded? I believe the Delta Charlie was release in 2018 and had about 2 years before it was superseded by the Tactix Delta.

Also we would be getting the Fenix 7 towards the end of the year too but the design language of the Tactix Delta speaks to me more.

Any info on this would be awesome and greatly appreciated.

  • I ordered my Tactix Delta Solar early Sept 2020, so it would have been released not long before that, as I was about to order the non Solar version, and noticed that the Solar was now avaialble. This is in Australia, but I think they were available globally at that time as well.

  • thanks for the prompt response.
I am thinking whatever the Fenix 7 (or 7x) brings out we will probably see it come across to whatever the new Tactix Delta would be so probably another year away.

Out of curiosity, is your Delta solar inlay correctly aligned?

This is a model I tried on instore and i noticed the two squares under the 24 is not exactly in the middle. It is a little rotated clockwise. I've also noticed someone pointing this out on instagram that most of the solar and Solar with Ballistic are affected whilst the standard non solar versions are all aligned property. Said user is located in Germany.

  • With last releases the Tactix model was released about 6 months after the initial Fenix release. The Delta platform as Fenix 6 are about two years old at this point and we are likely to see Fenix 7 series this year(August if they stick with previous ones), Tactix Echo would follow a few months later probably.

  • Yeah mine is also slightly off centered, but not really enough to bother me…..

  • I guess I could wait another year considering I have waited ever since the Fenix 3 HR and its still going solid.
The question is if we are going to see a big difference on the Fenix 7 or not then as it will translate to what the Tactix Echo might get since they share the same platform

  • Yeah its only very slightly on yours but for the price Garmin is asking for they really should try and get it more aligned. I've seem some really off ones.

  • Normally I would guess a product cycle of 2 years, but due to COVID-19: ?

  • Yeah tough to say hey but I think they will continue or to track on time.

I'm curious which way Garmin goes with the display technology for the Fenix line because those AMOLED displays on the new venue2 is amazing!!! I get it will be less efficient with battery but I wonder if they can find a middle ground of improving the display somehow.

  • As much as I’m with you on wanting an “indoor” version of the Fenix with a great display and I think there’s a market for it too(especially with Venu2 lasting as much as it does), my expectations for the display upgrade are extremely conservative unfortunately. But I’m on the lookout for the Coros Vertix 2 as well as it’s due for an upgrade as well. Love my Tactix Delta Solar though.

It's a close call, but I don't think it's a matter of rotation - I think the entire display is shifted to the right.  See my enhanced version of your photo:

If we use the bezel as the index, and look at the outer edge of the display area, we see that the hour index at 24 is indeed to the right.  However, we also see that the "GARMIN" at 12 is also slightly to the right.

More telling perhaps, is the location of the "START - STOP" and "BACK - LAP" lettering - it appears to be very close to the outer edge of the display area.  But if we compare to the location of the "LIGHT" and "DOWN" lettering on the other side of the display area, we see those appear to be much farther away from the edge of the display area.  Both left side and right side sets of lettering appear to be shifted to the right.

    Just some food for thought.
