TopoActive EU 2021.10 Insufficient Space Issue

I updated the latest maps via Garmin Express. Everything ended normally without a problem. Finally, Garmin Express wrote me that I was with the latest updates. I disconnected my F6 from the PC and restarted it. The process of installing the new maps went smoothly. After reconnecting the watch it to the PC, Garmin Express showed me a new update of TopoActive Europe 2021.10 is available which I had already done. When I try to install this update, I get a message that my device does not have enough space. In my F6 there are 17 GB free and the map is 11 GB. Does anyone have a similar problem?

  • Maybe it would be better if Garmin did not release new software or break things on a Friday if they are not willing to remedy their mistakes immediately upon discovery.

If the diagnosis of one missing character in one map file is correct then it hardly requires a team working the weekend to fix it. One person, working from home for 10 minutes while still in their pyjamas should be enough.

How many wasted hours have paying customers accumulated trying to figure out the problem?

Oh, and how did such an error make it past testing and into production in the first place?

  • Well said… a little perspective people, should this happen, no. But the world carried on and you can still run, tell the time, follow a course…

  • Obviously, there's no consensus on what's important :)

As an affected user I really don't find this important, and not worth people obsessing this much about it with (not you per se) "I paid 800 EUR and I want them not to sleep because of that" attitude.

  • Moreover, many people permanently work on weekends and no one comes to their boss and does not cry that it is not important and that they want to relax on the weekends.Grinning

  • You're going into an extreme, and to illustrate how silly it is to say that software should not be released on Fridays if the team is not ready to fix any bugs on Sat/Sun I'll raise the bar and say that the new software releases should be issued only once per year, in October, when everyone is back from summers holidays, but not in September because they might still be acclimatizing to the fact they're back to work Slight smile

The paying customers have figured the issue and a way to get the latest map on at least on Friday morning, and everything since then is just users with a lot of self-entitlement and/or no tech skills ranting Shrug

Bugs are bad, but they do happen, no matter how big the company is (Google, Apple, MS...). We don't know the security or corporate procedures code has to go through before a commit is submitted, so we cannot assume it's just a guy in pajamas changing a letter and uploading a change on Sun morning.

If you follow the instruction from the link above you will have a new map on your watch in no time (check the version of it on the watch now, you might already have the latest 2021.10) and in that case, just ignore what GE is telling you for the time being Thumbsup

  • Yep, we're on the same page Slight smile
Btw, it seems that there are various software dev and QA positions open in Romania, and Romania did celebrate Easter last Sunday so that might explain the delay now and the reason for this issue in the first place (if they're understaffed).

  • A lazy sheep thinks its wool heavy. If you don't like working, you will always look for an excuse for yourself.

  • Please define important...

Releasing something to the public that doesn't work as intended, to me is the definition of important...

  • Apart from a failing update notification, it doesn't break things.

Personally I don't care about your perfectionism or how you like to spend your weekend. Nor even about what you think is critical for a company of which you are a customer...

As stated many times, I think there is something really wrong with G's processes and QA, but neither do I have insights nor do I want to apply in Romania with them.

I've tried to be objective, but this thread is starting to get really personal against each other. So -> me out *mic drop*
