Why not Tennis?

Is there any reason why is not possible to have a dedicated activity for tennis?

in order to associate shoes and racquet to the activity as well as having custom icon and metrics (ang GPS setup like having just one point at the beginning to locate the court)

Tennis in one of the most popular sport in the world and I think it deserves some consideration.

  • With you on this and I know it's not the answer you like but:

  • Thank you I was not aware of the opportunity to share directly with Garmin.

I sent my idea... let we see.

  • What would you want or expect a Tennis activity to track that the regular Cardio activity doesn't already track?

Garmin doesn't include activities for which a perfectly good activity already exists on the watch. That's why they gave us a copy/rename function.

  • Floor Climb, Crosstrainer, Stair stepper, ...

    Running <-> Trail running

I know it's an argument, but Garmin does provide other first class citizens in the mix for which there is a perfectly good activity already.

Further more I find that whatever activity I choose to represent tennis, at the end of the day it doesn't do justice to tennis. I always get back that it was a modest activity even after a 1,5 hour all out session in which through the drills I reach max heartrate multiple times am happy to have survived. I can only guess that recovery after the drills is enough for it to qualify as moderate activity.

I think supporting tennis would require Garmin to really dig into the numbers. It is in my opinion a different beast to tame that simple cardio stats. Acceleration, number of sprints, length of rallies and count, which is different than calculating VO2Max and such.

Not seeing tennis in other environment also so I stand by the fact, it is different and no one is biting the bullet on this.

Hoping though, we are just seeing new stats in established sports which could come closer for predicting a tennis. In biking the is now Grit, Flow and Jumps.

  • I have tried all the possible activity copied and renamed but at the end all the metric recorded are poor and really not consistent withe the effort spent. Other than that every time I have to assign tennis in sport field and associate the shoes and racquet used.

Other brand watches I had where much better in tracking tennis and in fact they have a dedicated activity.

There are tons on metrics that can be recorded for tennis that are sport specific and mho is that given the popularity Tennis should be better supported.

  • Thank you, I have it but I would like to still be able to see my current hr, this app has only score page if I'm not wrong.

  • You can't see current HR but it does track it as part of the activity. You may be able to request it though - he's pretty responsive.

Please let me know which ones. I could be interested in buying one.

What metrics are you looking for that you can't use for the 'other' activity app that other brands currently use for their dedicated tennis app?  I don't play, so I don't know.  I'm curious if this is just another 'I want something that says (fill in activity here)' or if something really is missing.
