New HR battery saving mode

Does anyone know if it is possible to setup the wrist HR sensor to measure for example 1 minute each hour, or 5 minutes?.

It would keep track of your HR, but saving a lot of battery. I mean when in watch mode, of course, not while in activity modes (running, cycling, etc.).

IMHO it could be useful to have more alternative s than just ON and OFF.

  • Not possible currently. But you can turn on the "Battery saver mode during sleep hours" setting, and configure Battery saver mode to turn off the OHR.

Honestly the OHR uses so little power that I don't see much point in having it do what you're asking for, it would only add maybe a couple days to a watch that already lasts several weeks. The downside (losing accurate all-day tracking info) wouldn't be worth it for most people.

I do wish they had this function for PulseOX though. Rather than just "all-day", "during sleep" and "off", it would be great to have a fourth option, "intermittent all-day", where it only takes reading for say 5 minutes every hour.

Garmin already do what you want to a certain extent. The sampling rate is lower when not active compared to when you are. There are also differences between activities such as walking where heart rate would likely be lower and change less than when running:

But as already noted OHR uses little power that in the scheme of things it matters little. Unless of course the watch is being used purely as a smartwatch without recording any activities with the sole intent of maximising time between recharges.
