Crashes when saving activity, loses training effect

I've had two instances now of my Fenix 6 'crashing' when saving an activity. Both times I clicked save, then saw the Garmin logo and the watch returned to the save/discard menu. Saving once again saved the activity but the watch did not calculate the training effect, the activity is missing training metrics and was not added to my exercise load.

  • Would be good to know if there is some way of pre-empting / avoiding this happening in the future. I am running software version 15.2 and the watch had 13 days battery life the last time it happened.

Both times were outside with what appears to be good GPS tracking of the activities; one was a run the other MTB. For the running activity the watch lost the last 100m of the run in addition to not calculating training effect. At the time I wondered if it was because I stopped the activity at exactly the same time as the lap data came up but the subsequent MTB crash was at the end of a ride, quite stationary in a car park.

  • Hopefully this issue will get addressed soon - it has been happening to me several times now, and it seems like it's getting more frequent.

  • same issue for me: i'm stopping exercice, after few seconds, the triangle of the death appears, resume after few seconds to the exercice and after i can record it. But first time, i lost exercice load, and seconde time, i lost load and aerobic/anaerobic data !

  • Same thing here, crashed when saving and I lost training effect data.

  • Contact Garmin support. They need to collect relevant data from your watch to know what your watch was doing when it crashed. Otherwise, just reporting on the forum that "my watch crashed" isn't enough information for Garmin to know what they need to fix.

  • Yep I have opened a case with them and I am currently in contact with Hannah from the Customer Support Team. Would definitely encourage all of you to reach out -- the more data they can collect, the more likely they are in releasing a patch to fix this firmware bug.

This forum is considered "unofficial" and is not linked to Garmin at all.

  • Indeed. They are quite responsive when reached directly with firmware-related issues, in my experience. They've fixed a couple software issues as a result of my reporting them and giving them all the info they asked for.

  • For me, this week it happened twice already. (Fenix 6 too$

  • He is right, and he was clear.

  • "Contact Garmin support" is not a helpful advice if you do not have explain how. I had the problem for the second time today. How do I contact Garmin support?
