Fenix 6 Pro + Polar H10

Been using a Polar H10 for a few years now and since owning the Fenix 6 (c18 months) have always allowed it to connect by default. Having been monitoring battery consumption recently I noticed the H10 is connected via Bluetooth, not ANT+. I’ve attempted to remove the sensor and re pair, but am never presented with an ANT+ option? Having searched the forum I’ve not come across anything where this is explicitly detailed?

I’ve also reset the H10 in the hope that would allow me the option but having checked in polar flow the only sensor option there is to open up dual Bluetooth channels (which I’ve done as I also pair with Apple TV when Zwifting). Don’t get me wrong, it works fine with Bluetooth when connect to the Fenix, however on a 3 hour run yesterday (H10 connected, glonass + gps, 1 sec recoding, optical hrm off, phone connection off) the battery dropped by 12%. This seems a little high based on the 36hr claims and I’m trying to gauge settings for a planned ultra so wondering if having the H10 connected via Bluetooth is the root cause and I’d see better battery performance from ANT+?

  • I run and cycle with a Polar H10 and ANT+, ANT does seem to give better better life, with GPS and on a 1 1/2 hour bike ride with Polar H10 + ANT cadence sensor I use between 3-5% battery life.

Are you sure you have the ANT+ software upgrade on your H10?

  • Thanks - I don’t see the ANT+ option in the Polar Flow app, just the first 3 - I’m guessing ANT+ has always been in the H10....I’ve had mine for around 3 years now I think?

Take a look at the back of your Polar H10 sensor near the battery cover - do you see an ANT+ logo next to the Bluetooth logo? If it has the ANT+ logo it's already upgraded.

If your H10 is 3 years old, I don't think it would have had ANT+ when you bought it, so it'll be delivered via firmware.

What firmware version does Polar Beat report for your H10?

  • ANT+ logo doesn’t appear in the back.

Polar Beat App is showing firmware 2.1.9

Polar Beat App is showing firmware 2.1.9

That explains why you don't have the ANT+ option.

You'll need to upgrade the firmware - Polar Beat should offer to do this for you, I'm pretty sure Polar Flow also does firmware updates too (check the H10 appears in Polar Flow)

    Updating from Polar Beat:

Updating from Polar Flow (available from your Devices settings, I also use a Polar V800 and use Polar Flow, so it's possible you don't use Polar Flow or don't have your H10 registered with it)

  • Thanks! I had checked whether a firmware update was available but neither polar beat or flow are showing an update option for some reason. I’ve even gone to the trouble of removing the h10 battery and doing a hard rest before reconnecting to the apps - still no update available but it’s clear my unit is behind the latest firmware. I’ve raised a ticket with Polar so see what they say. Thanks again for the help, much appreciated.

  • Hi

As others here say, you need to update the firmware. Polar Beat is the best bet to get this to work (rather than Flow) and perhaps borrow a friend's phone and try it on iOS/android....opposite operating system to whatever you currently use.

I have one of the early H10s and it does broadcast over both ANT+ and BLE, so I don't think that is the issue. Ultimately though this is a question for Polar support.

Despite what you might read elsewhere you will perhaps get better results with BLE. Certainly, HRV app writers point out that BLE doesn't lose data packets. For regular HR (not HRV) you probably won't notice any difference.

One of the reasons the H10 is supposedly the best HRM is because of the strap which has a greater sensing area and which has rubber dimples to stop it moving ie it is the srtap which also prevents some minor degree of data loss. Again, my suspicion would be that this is only relevant to HRV.

  • I’ve the Polar apps installed on my iPhone.

Can I just clarify: are you saying HRV isn’t recorded when using the Polar H10 via ANT+?

  • i also use an H10. it is 2 years old and it has both ant+ and BT. I do have the logo on the bottom right showing. I have it connected to my 6 pro via ant+
