Can I connect to my Concept 2 SkiErg PM5 without using Bluetooth?

Hello. Does anyone know if I can connect my Fenix 6s Pro to my Concept 2 SkiErg PM5 without using Bluetooth? It is my understanding that the PM5 only supports 1 Bluetooth device at a time and currently I use ErgZone via Bluetooth for my training. Just wondering if I need to bite the bullet and get a chest strap.

  • I've not used the PM5, but if you connect the phone first, that should take the Bluetooth channel, meaning the watch should pair via ANT+ while broadcasting.

    Note that many people find that the wrist flexing with strength training, hiking with poles, rowing, etc decreases accuracy from wrist heart rate. But it's probably worth trying the watch before splashing on a new strap.

  • Hi .. you should know that SkiErg PM5 is not properly connecting to Fenix unless you use ErgIQ app. For example, the native rowing app works well with my Concept2 rower by SkiErg does not work with the same app. So .. I use the Garmin rowing app for my rower but ErgIQ app for SkiErg. And I also use ErgZone at the same time! ErgZone talks to PM5 and watch talks to PM5. It is all OK. I use ANT+ chest strap to connect to my watch and PM5. Hope this helps.

  • Hi. Finally Maybe I found the answer. I can’t get my ski-erg to work with indoor rowing app. Shouldn’t this (PM5) be the same on rower and ski erg?

  • Probably the PM5 on the ski erg uses a different ANT power profile? You can probably only pair sensors that broadcast as cycling or rowing power meters to the F6 directly.

    (I am not familiar with either product so its quite likely I am talking rubbish!)

  • I use a chest strap (older Wahoo TICKR) and my setup is:

    • Wahoo -> F6 via ANT+
    • Wahoo -> PM5 via Bluetooth
    • PM5 -> F6 via ANT+
    • PM5 -> ErgData on iPhone via Bluetooth

    I've not tried to broadcast from the F6 to the PM5. The current model of the TICKR is $50 on Amazon.
