Fenix 6 Solar blank navigation screen

My Fenix 6 Solar issue : The navigation screen shows my route but everything else is blank, even if I just start a random activity and switch to the map screen it's blank, any ideas ? This is a brand new watch and fully updated.. driving me crazy why I can't see the map - someone please help

  • hmm why oh why does it have a " maps " option then ?

  • Look on the back of the watch and confirm which version you have.

If it is actually a Fenix 6 Pro Solar then you should have maps. I seem to recall a Fenix 6 Solar being available in Europe that came without maps but for the rest of us the Solar version is Pro and has maps.

If you should have maps, connect to Garmin Express and see what maps are there.

  • but for the rest of us the Solar version is Pro and has maps.

This model is then called „PRO Solar“. And not, as the author mentions here, „fenix 6 solar“. These are two different models.

If you should have maps, connect to Garmin Express and see what maps are there.

That is a good idea. Another method would be to connect the watch to the computer and see how much memory is available. 32GB = PRO (with maps). 64MB = no Pro (without maps).

  • If you have a Maps version (and I can't see why you'd have a maps option if it wasn't) then try plugging it into Garmin Express and see if it downloads map updates.  Those updates aren't issued over-the-air as such, you need to plug it in and it downloads something like 2Gig of data.

I expect if you do this, it'll start working.  There was a similar forum post recently where the user had a blank screen on maps, when plugged into Express and updated, they started working properly.

  • Is it possible that your watch is for a different geographic area?  Generally you don't get maps for the whole world, just for the Americas, or Europe, as Asia, or whatever.  There are two possible reasons for this.  First, there's just not enough room on a watch for the entire world, and the vast majority of people won't ever leave their area.  Second, Garmin can make a few extra bucks by selling you extra maps.

If your watch isn't in the right geographic area, then you'll only get major roads.  If you're not close to a major road, then you'll get nothing.

This happened to me on my first watch.  I called Amazon (the seller of my watch) and they replaced it for free.  Now all the local roads are on my map.

(BTW, just because the map doesn't cover an area you're going to on vacation doesn't mean you need to either go without a map or need to buy more maps from Garmin.  Garmin's products -- unlike most people's products -- are open to maps from other sources.  Just Google "download free Garmin maps" and you'll find maps for your next vacation.)

Yes, that is correct. But again, if it turns out that he does not have a PRO model, there is also NO WAY to install Maps afterwards. I say this only because it has already been asked a few times, whether you can not waive the extra cost for a Pro model to then subsequently install free openstreetmap. This does NOT work.

Already the memory is not nearly enough for this

Since he is talking about a fenix 6 solar, and NOT the fenix 6 PRO Solar, I have to assume for now that there is no option for Maps. That is what I can read from the title. He should now tell us if his description was correct or not.

    What watch he has ?

  • It is a Fenix 6 Solar as stated, It seems it doesn't come with maps as all stated above.

I just have no idea why it would have an option for Maps & Navigation...

I can plot a route on garmin and send it over to the watch and when you go to " courses " it's just a blue line ( route ) I can zoom in and out of it but no topo maps or anything..

Guess I'll have to just use it as is, thanks for the replies

Well, you answered your own question - it has "maps and navigation" so that you can create and view your "breadcrumb" trail, and also so you can load courses into the watch to navigate them. It's better to at least have that functionality, than to not have it. But it doesn't include full maps because that requires gigabytes of storage, which the non-pro models don't have nearly enough storage space for. That's what makes it less expensive than the Pro models.

  •  where are you in the world? As noted, there does not appear to be an option to buy the F6 Solar here in NZ or the US without maps. It looks like we can only buy the F6 Solar Pro - https://buy.garmin.com/en-NZ/NZ/p/641449/pn/010-02158-00. but the F6 Solar is available in Gernany - https://buy.garmin.com/de-DE/DE/p/703023

Curious to know where you bought your F6 Solar.
