How do I disable Recovery Time notifications?

How do I disable the Recovery Time Improved / Delayed alerts on my Garmin Fenix 6? This alert is completely useless to me. I know if I got a good night's sleep or not. This adds no value to my day and only serves to piss me off. How do I disable it before smashing my watch?

  • I should add that I don't use the recovery advisor at all because if I did, I would never get out of bed, it's that bad. No matter what I do, it always tells me I have to rest for another 72 hours. Whatever algorithm they're using is complete junk and I'd rather just train off feel.

  • i found that alert very useful and brings me joy when it tells me that i had a good night haha. In my case, recovery times are as expected, no complains here.

  • Am I alone in having no idea what alert this is? I have never seen such an alert pop up on my watch, and I've had the Fenix 6 since day 1. It must be a setting somewhere, because otherwise why are you guys getting this alert constantly, and I've never gotten it before?

  • The alerts just started for me, so I figure it's something to do with a recent update. I've had this watch since May of last year.

  • Maybe, are you running the newest beta 15.71 firmware, or just the public 15.20? I'm still on 15.20 myself

  • I'm on 15.20. I don't have the patience for the public betas.

  • I've occasionally seen the Recovery Time Improved alert, never more than once in a day, never more than once in a couple of weeks for that matter, and it's almost always from having a light day rather than quality of sleep.

If you're really always getting 72 hours as your recovery time, something is wrong with the settings, probably your maximum heart rate, and you might want to look into whether your heart rate settings are reasonable.

  • Max heart rate seems fine. I'm a semi-elite runner so I know my heart rate pretty well. I think the algorithms are just garbage. Besides, I know when I need a day off and when I don't. Even if the watch was accurate, it wouldn't add any value. For example, I don't need my watch to tell me when I got a bad night's sleep, it's pretty obvious. I just want the watch to log my activities and not try to coach me through my day.

  • I agree that in most cases, I let my body tell me how I should train on a particular day. That said, I find that on days when I'm on the fence about whether to do something or debating between easier or harder, I use Body Battery and Recovery Advisor if they are both clearly pointing me in one or the other direction.

  • Try turning off performance notifications under Physiological Metrics; the manual isn't clear about what alerts are switched off by that. I don't think that you can stop the watch tracking the recovery time entirely, though maybe turning off the optical HRM would have that effect.

Mind you, all that stuff about smashing watches and lack of patience, maybe the watch is just picking up your general stress levels being a bit high? ;)
