Trainning load in stationary bike versus road bike or running

I have been doind some indoor trainningin in a stationary bike. Noticed that the trainning load is higher than the usual values in running and road bike.

It could be twice for the same kind of HR trainning comparing to running and road bike. I use the same HR zones for all the sports.

I don't use any power meter and it seems strange, specially comparing with road bike. Does anyone has the same experience?

  • One thing to note with indoor cycling versus outdoor cycling is that your heart rate will be significantly higher due to the body trying to get rid of excess heat, but without the benefit of natural airflow from riding outside. Experienced indoor cyclists typically use multiple and very powerful fans to try to recreate at least some of this airflow, and help them manage some of this excess heat.

Also, indoor cycling involves continuous pedalling, unlike road cycling where there can be a surprising amount of "micro-coasting" as you deal with cornering, traffic, lights, etc. So typically 1 hr on the indoor trainer will represent more work than 1 hr riding outside.

  • did not know about the heat. need to get a bigger fan then..

  • Bigger, more .....

When your indoor cooling setup sounds like a small aircraft on its takeoff run, that's when you know you've got it about right. Grinning
