New Fenix 6S Sapphire won't register heart rate or steps

Hi,

Just bought a Fenix 6S Sapphire.

No matter what I do, I simply can't get it to register my pulse or the steps I take. It doesn't matter if it's just in watch mode or during an activity. Even going into the HR widget and using the option to send HR data, I can see the lights underneath aren't even turning on. At one point it was stuck at "62" for some reason, but that has also disappeared. It simply shows two horizontal lines.

Garmin Express tells me that it is fully updated. I tried restarting it, removing the watch from Garmin Connect and reinstalling the app. I've used Garmin Express to synchronize and update it as well. There's one odd thing, though: Every time I connect the watch to Garmin Express and then disconnect it, the watch says there's an update (install time of 1 min.). I tell it to install it, and it seems to install it and restart, but if I connect it to Garmin Express and disconnect it again, it shows up with the (seemingly) same update that needs to be installed. If I just restart the watch, it doesn't mention the update.

The steps part I don't get at all. It's not that it won't sync, the number next to the footprints just keep showing a round 0.

Has anyone had similar problems? It's quite simply driving me nuts, and I've been postponing my run for over two hours now since I can't get it to work.

Edit: I was very excited for a few minutes, as it seemed it had installed the sensor update and thus the heart rate and step counter was working! Going into the About menu showed that the sensor update version ("Sensor Hub") was 8.0.0 (IIRC). Now, however, it says 0.00 again. I have no idea why. Maybe because of Wi-Fi automatically "de-updating" it? I have tried turning it off, hoping that I can get the correct version of Sensor Hub to install again...

  • Sounds like it might be faulty. What version of sensor software does it report having? If it's all zeros then something isn't right.

  • Sensor Hub: 0.00

If I go to software updates on the watch, it says there's one available. Clicking on it says "SNS". If I click "continue" it seems to install it. But when restarted and installed, I can go into software updates and find the same one again.

Edit: I made it install the Sensor Hub 8.0.0! However, as soon as I synchronized with Garmin Connect it removed it and it now says 0.00 again (and the HR has stopped working again). What on Earth is going on?

  • As it is brand new there is little to lose by doing a full factory reset.  You do this using the menus on the watch.

  • I had this yesterday.

Brand new Fenix 6s Pro, plugged it in to garmin express and updated everything.

Didn’t register anything overnight and heart rate not working etc.

After doing a soft reset (top left button for 30 seconds) and turning back on it listed all the updates had loaded ok... even tho i did it night before!

Going to see what happens tonight but i would say leave the watch connected to wifi with auto updates on and give it 12 hours to let the watch “settle down”

Mine seems to be working fine except having to turn bluetooth off then on to connect it on my phone.

Hoping it actually tracks my sleep tonight or i have more questions!!!

  • Thanks for the reply.

By resetting it and reinstalling updates over and over, I can sometimes get the "Sensor Hub 8.0.0" to appear. However it disappears again without warning, seemingly for no actual reason. The BMX and WHR also shows 0.0.0. But only sometimes. Right now they say 1.02 and 1.00.02.

  • It sounds like a hardware fault.  The version shouldn't appears/dissappear.  If it's brand new I would take it back for replacement, or at least contact Garmin.  Your device is not acting at all correctly, there's not much else the forums will be able to do to help you at this stage, only Garmin can assist.  Sorry.

  • Mine is also now doing the same.

Working fine all day but now not showing a heart rate or body battery info.

What a letdown... come on Garmin!

  • Is it the same issue, Sensor Hardware showing 0.0?

If so then yes, I feel your frustration and disappointment, however all manufacturers end up with some hardware issues - it's just the way it goes.

Garmin are very receptive to helping people with faulty hardware, so better to contact them than moan at them on the forums.

If it's a different issue then better to start a new thread.

  • Went into heart rate widget, held the left middle button to enter settings for heart rate... all set ok and nothing changed.

Came out widget and heart rate started working again (but for how long)

Some sort of software glitch surely?
