My watch did an update today. When I went to swim, it didn't pick up any distance. I checked to make sure stroke detection was on. I can't seem to figure out the problem; I've never had this issue before.

Can you post a bit more detail?
a) What watch do you have?
b) What software versions do you have now?
Maybe there is an issue with 15.20. I don't do pool swimming so I can't say if it works or not, but others might be able to chime in (if that's the version of software you've been updated to)
I have the Fenix 6S Pro
The update I did today is 15.20
same here, Fenix 6x pro. Also became very unstable.restarts in the middle of activities. I have not been able to fully record even 1 activity.
Well that really sucks. Hopefully Garmin_ODQA can provide some guidance, but in the meantime I would suggest sending an email to [email protected] with as much detail as you can provide.
Have you tried resetting your watch? In the past when I had an issue with it not recording swim laps resetting it fixed it. Try doing that if you haven't by first syncing to avoid losing data and then holding down the power button until it shuts off. Then wait a minute and power it back on.
I did that and it worked. Thank you so much! @svenmilo, maybe this is what you should try too!
Glad it worked. It's also usually a good idea to reset like this after a firmware update. Sometimes the update process can cause some weird issues and a reset sometimes fixes them (assuming there's not a bug in the update itself).
I have a Fenix that is less than a month old. First time I swam and used the rowing machine, it recorded strokes. The second time for each, it didn't. Will try the power cycle fix and see if that works.
I have the same watch and swim record for pool swim has never recorded distance! I made sure and updated the software and have reset the watch many times but nothing has worked. Garmin_ODQA
Whenever pool swims aren't recording distance a few things to check (I know some of these are basic but I figured best to be thorough):
If any of these are things you are not doing they might be worth looking into to see if that'll fix your issue. If none of these are the cause you should give Garmin Support a call since they may have more advanced troubleshooting or it's possbile it's a hardware failure and needs replacement.
