Hoping someone at Garmin sees this, I'm also going to shoot an email to the Beta team.
For about the last 6 months or so (I've had the watch since Sep 2018), the Fenix has had an issue where if you record an activity and have an InReach paired to it, you get massive battery drain after you save and close out of the activity. The drain rate on my 6X is on the order of 5-10% per hour, which while in smartwatch-only mode, is insanely fast battery drain.
Here's what I've determined so far:
- The watch does not have this problem if an activity is recorded without having an InReach paired.
- The battery drain rate returns to normal if you power the watch off and back on again after saving the activity.
- The battery drain rate is normal during the activity, whether an InReach is paired or not. The high drain rate is only after saving the activity.
- It did not have this problem in earlier firmware versions, it seems to have started about 6 months ago, and seems to affect everybody who pairs with an InReach.
My speculation is that the watch is expending a ton of battery power trying to stay connected to the (probably now powered off) InReach device, after the activity is finished.
