6X Pro GSP pace accuracy

Hello,

i dont know if this is normal, but my Garmin Fenix 6X pro current pace shows + - 20-30 seconds, but at the end my average tempo maybe is correct. If my pace is 4 min/km, first for 5 seconds it shows 3:40, then the next 5 seconds it shows 4:20 and so on. I run with constant pace all the time.

Also if i set my target pace to be 3:55-4:00, 70% of the time my watch alerts me for high pace even if the pace is slower.

Even when i walk, my pace is all over the place. Its like that on almost all activities.

Do you have such problem?

  • Hi, there are quite a few threads in this forum dealing with this kind of issue. Have you done a search?

  • Yes, but mostly they are old ones. I would like to know if its the same now.

  • There may be some improvement coming in pace calculation, but I doubt it. People expect too much in general. Pace accuracy can be improved using a footpod if that matters to you especially for quick instant pace changes that GPS is not good at tracking. Just want to point out that 3:55-4:00 is a very narrow window and with normal inaccuracies and/or just your own suble pace changes you will get alerts all the time. For me that would just be an annoyance to be constrained to such a narrow window. You should make that window wider and not be so obsessed with a precise number, then now and then check your average to see if you hold that pace you are looking for. Averages are always much more precise instant measures. Also real pace will vary with incline and a 5sec window is too narrow in my opinion. There are CIQ data fields that can give you an incline compensated pace (Grade Adjusted Pace or GAP)  if you want to look at a more stable target but I don't think you can set an alert against a CIQ data field
