Waypoints

Hi,
I Recently bought a Fenix 6x pro (again) and crested a course on connect with a few test waypoints to see if it works ok.
I sent the file to the new files folder to do away with the turn by turn notifications that come across by sending to watch.
When out on the course the waypoints showed and distance to next etc was correct and at the waypoint the watch notified for the waypoint however it only showed it in the lower part of the screen and was just a symbol not the text I had written.
Last time I had a Garmin it used to show the notification full screen and displayed the text I’d written.
Am I missing something to get it to do this ?

I really hope Garmin will change this behaviour porting navigation…

I do exactly the same thing, it works really well.

If you (McBadger / Simone.01) want separate distances to fuel points or the like, I recommend using either

Ultra Field or UltraTimes Data Field

I use the second one regularly - they can track checkpoints/water…

Plus BC will read maps off a removable device (like an SD card). So copying the files from your watch to a /Garmin directory on a SD card means you can use the maps there. If your PC doesn't have an SD card reader, you can use https://sourceforge.net/projects/imdisk-toolkit/ to create a "Virtual" SD card (remember - important - when creating a virtual SD card is to make it "removable" so Basecamp will use it)

I use this and it speeds it up immensely. You can use the maps for routing off the SD Card, it'll still index but it's less of a hardship as you can still send things to the watch ... 2nd warning, doing this gives you 2 devices to send to, watch and card, so make sure you select the watch when you send to otherwise it gets confusing :)

i connected my watch to BC and this time I gave some time (more than 6 hours ) to synchroize maps. After that i send tracks including waypints to my fenix and it works . This then is of course the easiest way to bring waypoints to my watch....

No, I agree. Hopefully further indexing will be quicker. You can also send WP's etc to the watch without waiting for it to index. Thats why I copied maps to BC, so I can carry on working, send tracks and WP's etc even without indexing finishing!

Basecamp 4.7.4 and Fenix 6X pro: Basecamp 4.7.4 often (but not always) crashes when I try to 'send to' waypoints the Fenix... some help on that? Absolutely no problems when sending tracks to my fenix but often problems when sending waypoints. Yesterday i send 30 waypoints with water icon without problems to my fenix 6 and tried to send 2 waypoints with hut icon and basecamp crashes all the time

As a Mac user, that's why I havent seen that. :)

In that thread there is one workaround "However, what does still work is using Basecamp (probably most versions) to make a list with the desired waypoints and tracks in it, then exporting that to a GPX and manually copying it into the Fenix->garmin->NewFiles directory. Then when you take the Fenix off the USB it loads the tracks in the GPX file to its list of courses and the waypoints to its 'saved locations' list and so I can do things this way.

Sad that we have to use these workarounds, but you know what they say. Sell a $50 watch with broken software and it's the manufacturer's problem, but sell a $900 watch with broken software ecosystem and its the buyer' problem..."

But there's also a site with older BC's for download - I'll try and find it now and find 4.7.2

(One very quick thought - what happens if you right click on the Basecamp icon and "run as admiistrator")?

thanks - helpful link... for the workarounds i'll try within the next days. need to fix cause we start GR20 on sunday and i need all the waypoints on my fenix

Cool. Let me know how you get on. As I use Mac Basecamp I havent seen this. I do have a PC so I'll load Basecamp to it again but i try to keep all my stuff in the same place!

it was possible to export all my waypoints as gpx and import them by copying it into the Fenix->garmin->NewFiles directory. Unfortunately during the import to the watch the symbols of each waypoint changed to the blue flag. But it was possible after connecting the watch to basecamp to change the symbols manually. so all tracks and waypoints for the GR20 hike now on my watch . was not the easiest way

That’s the Garmin way :) seriously, though at least A solution!
