Fenix 6 v. Apple 6

This thread somewhat parallels another thread where I asked about how much of an improvement the Fenix 6 is over the Fenix 5.  I got pretty much every possible response to my query.  As I noted in the thread, the different responses may relate to different uses.  I mostly would want to use the Fenix while hiking, often at altitude of 5000 feet to 14,000 feet.  The Fenix may work much better for, say, jogging or biking at sea level.  All of that said, I am wondering if I would be better off with the Apple 6, notwithstanding the pathetic battery life.  Notably, I otherwise live in an Apple universe, Mac Air, Ipad, Iphone.  I found a nice Youtube comparing the two.  www.youtube.com/watch Each watch has its plusses and minuses, but it seemed to suggest the Fenix 6 was better for more rigorous outdoor activities, partly because of the more rugged build.  But his comparisons were more with sporting activities like jogging and biking, not hiking or backpacking which for me would be the better comparison.  The baseline Apple 6 is quite a bit cheaper than the Fenix, but one thing the Youtube noted is that the baseline Apple 6 is quite a bit more fragile than the Fenix.  By the time one upgrades to the tougher Apple 6 with, say, a stainless steel case and tougher crystal, the prices are comparable.  Any words of wisdom one way or the other?

  • Good for you man!  Yeah, that is something that no one talks about.. the motivation factor.  For me, my Omega's and Rolex (sadly) stay in the winder.. mainly because having the Garmin on my wrist at all times acts both as a reminder and motivator to keep going.  I find that I get in the best shape of my life when I am focused on it... and for me, this is the biggest thing.  Granted this wont be the same for everyone, but for me it is.   I love things like body battery, stress, etc.. I find it to be VERY telling of whats going on.  Even been able to predict sickness coming on.

Again, the AW is great.. but, nothing in the same league as what you get with a Garmin.  It just simply does not offer the same experience out of the box.

  • I wear my Garmin for 95% of the time and then put on my Omega when going out or for evening dinner. I agree the stats are really useful and makes me push my training even more and I only find them that useful when I wear the watch almost all of the time. I just wish Garmin would release a basic band for fitness tracking, doesn't need to to have a screen just BB, Stress, HR, sleep tracking. I can then wear my mechanical watches more often with the basic band on my right wrist.

  • Now THAT is a great idea!  Yeah, that's my biggest down side.. lol, I have some amazing watches.. just sitting around.  But it's true.. you really need to wear the Garmin all the time, to get the most out of it.. and for me that is more important as this is a motivating factor, and that leads to me doing more and pushing myself a ton more = better fitness and health.  So, it's def. a tricky situation.

Or.. maybe Omega needs to make a fitness watch, LMAO!

  • They sort of do have that, don't they? I thought I remembered seeing some fitbit-looking devices on the Garmin website before, that were just a basic band with no (or just a very small/basic) screen.

Edit: Vivosmart 4 is what I saw, I think. Check it out, might be along the lines of what you're looking for.

  • Yeah but they are very old now...2 years and counting and no sign of replacements. I just want something basic without a screen that maximises battery life and works over BT. I am sure this would sell well especially with mechanical watch wearers.

  • Yes!  Kinda like a sensor for the bike.  Just a black band, with nothing on it.. etc.. counts all the metrics and syncs to GC like the watch does.  Then, we can just strap on the watch for workouts and all during the rest of the day wear our nice automatics.  I think this would sell very well!

  • Exactly that. Garmin you listening??
