fēnix 6X Pro suddenly can't see WiFi networks

- About a week ago the watch suddenly lost the ability to scan for nearby wireless signals after working fine since the time I purchased it in May 2020. It also apparently thought the two previously saved networks (home network and phone hotspot are both 2.4Ghz) that both worked the day before were not valid, and didn't seem to even try to connect to them anymore. The message from the watch after 1-2 seconds is always "No Wi-Fi Networks Found", when both networks are still present in My Networks on the watch.
- Doing a soft reset later that night didn't improve the situation.
- I then tried creating a new 2.4Ghz guest network (with no security protocol or password) using our router's web interface and while I could see and connect to it from my Pixelbook, the watch still couldn't see it, or any other networks. Nor could it connect to this guest network when added manually.
- After dusting off our old vivoactive 3 music, I found it was still working with the same home WiFi network referenced above.
- I later purchased a new Forerunner 245 music from Amazon and received it Friday. This watch also can see and connect to our home WiFi network. My podcast app, Runcasts, is able to get new content without issues with both this watch and the vivoactive 3 using WiFi.
- Another interesting comparison is the behavior of the problematic 6X Pro vs. the FR245 when attempting to add a WiFi connection via the Garmin Connect mobile app and Garmin Express (I tested with both). In the case of the 6X Pro, no networks were returned from the device to the app, only a manual add of a connection was possible. Even then, the same error message mentioned above was returned when trying to connect. The FR245 did return the expected list of connections, and worked perfectly.

- Downloaded Garmin WebUpdater, connected 6X Pro, and chose to reinstall the same version of software. Afterwards, the same error message was presented when trying to connect to WiFi. Later, I tried the "add a network" option and the watch still couldn't see any networks.

- Today I finally did a hard reset. After this, the watch still couldn't see any WiFi networks when I attempted to add one. Same result after restarting and trying again. I tried the "Sync via Wi-Fi?" option from Garmin Express for Windoze (GE). Not only did this not work, but it also caused GE to lose connection with the watch entirely (I did this twice to see if it was reproducible). After this, I reconnected and tried the "Find Networks" option in Utilities and while the FR245 found multiple WiFi networks, and I was able to add one, the resulting message from GE immediately afterwards for the 6X was "Your device did not find any networks."

  • A number of people seem to have had this issue. Has anyone found a solution outside of getting a replacement unit?

  • Based on what you've said, this sounds like a hardware error with the watch :-(

  • I am sorry your Fenix 6X Pro has developed a Wi-Fi connectivity issue. Based on everything you have described along with the troubleshooting performed, please reach out to our Outdoor Wearables Product Support team. We will be happy to assist you further.

  • Seems like the WIFI issues appeared after update to FW 13.10.0.0. I saw a lot of complains about WIFI after FW update. I have actually the same issue. Before last FW update WIFI works and I have no issues... Hopefully WIFI hardware isn't broken with latest FW update. Have you already resolved your issue with Wifi? Seems like I'm at the same boat, tried everything but my F6X Pro cant find any wifi network...

  • Hello Chris,

i have exactly the same Problem :-(

    Fenix 6X Sapphire

I tried all the steps which AkakyAkakivich did without any luck.

Additional i updated to the latest Beta Firmware v16.10. And re-applied wifi Firmware 2.60.

Router is on 2.4G only. WPA2. Also tried an Android Hotspot right next to the watch.

For me it looks like a huge Software vor Hardware Problem.

    Nothing helped.

I am very disappointed right now :-(

    Could you Plesse help me?

Not having wifi is very disappointing.

    Kind regards,

    Wolfgang

  • Hi Wolfgang. I am sorry you are having a Wi-Fi connectivity issue with your Fenix 6 Pro series watch. This support center article will go over troubleshooting - Adding, Removing, and Troubleshooting Wi-Fi Networks With a Compatible Garmin Outdoor Watch.

Other than the steps in the article, you can try fully resetting your watch - How to Reset My Garmin Outdoor Watch.

If your Wi-Fi issue does not resolve, your watch will need to be exchanged. Please reach out to your region's Outdoor Product Support. I am sorry, but there are no other options if your Wi-Fi connection doesn't resolve.

  • Same thing for me! It happened out of no where. I'm glad I came across this.

  • Yep - Same with me.  My watch initially connected to my home wifi with no issue - allowing me to download spotify playlists (pretty much the only reason I "upgraded" my watch.  Some time ago it just stopped being able to see any networks (it does not even search - just instantly states "no network found).  I have been in touch with garmin customer support via e-mail with them asking questions and basically getting me to repeat everything I outlined having done, in initial e-mail.  In the last e-mail I have informed them that we both know either the watch or firmware is faulty and the right thing to do is replace it.  Really shoddy to be honest - even if I did rectify it by changing my wifi network from this to this, why should you have to do that?  You buy a smart item that states it can connect to wifi - it should do that without faffing around.  Spread the word and if you visit this forum topic please take the time to add "yep me too", so we can see how big the issue is.

  • I have this issue to, fenix 6 sapphire
