Did you upgrade from a 645/M to a Fenix 6 series? Talk me into doing the same thing!

I've got a 645M, and I've been thinking of upgrading to a Fenix 6 Pro, and I've been through the feature comparisons and all that and I think I know what I'm getting, but I'm wondering what I haven't considered.

If you upgraded from a 645 to a Fenix 6 series, what were the biggest wins for you?

  • Hey. I "upgraded" last summer from FR645 (no music) to Fenix 6 Pro.

It really depends on what features you need.

And to be honest, for me I think there were no wins at all. I started wearing my FR645 again recently.

    My cons:

To big and clunky for my wrist. In summer it was ok, but in winter when wearing long sleeve clothes it sometimes felt like very uncomfortable. Also at night.

I'm not a frequent runner. I found that I don't need all additional metrics and training suggestions. FR645 does the job.

I do not listen music when running. I actually don't need music on my watch, because whenever I listen outdoors I use my mobile phone.

Maps: I don't need. And my eyes aren't good enough to read them.

PulseOX: useless or let's say pointless.

GPS don't seem to be better or more accurate.

    Some more...

    Pros:

Bigger display 260x260 instead of 240x240 pixels.

    Looks better.

    Better battery life.

I should have bought the Fenix 6 without Pro features. Now I know better.

  • I did last May from 645 to F6X Sapphire. My use case is mainly hiking so I need maps, and instant access to OS grid ref, and a long battery life in excess of 60 hours. I had problems with the first watch sent it back, 24 hours later got a new replacement, and its worked ever since around 6 months. I have a load of music on it, and podcasts of the infinite monkey cage (all of them 145 episodes).

Being able to glance at my grid ref in  < 40M vis up on Dartmoor is just brilliant.

The watch is great, but expensive.

  • Upgrade from a 645 non music to a 6 pro.

    I'm only running (about 40kms/week).

To be honnest, 645 did perfectly the job for me. There is nothing I *really* need on te F6. Only wanted to change, as a geek.

But the map is great when on trail.

And the battery life also: if I wear the watch h24 (not all the time because I'm found of "real" watches, mechanicals ones, so I have to share my wirst), I have 14 days with OHR h24, no pulse ox, gps only on run/trail and no music. It's really great.

Size is the (esthetic, so personnal) limit on my wirst. Can't wear a Fenix5 for exemple, biggest lug to lug.

And for one of the often "problem" talked here on the forum: absolutly no prob here with OHR. Same results with my F6 (used since 8.10 firmware), my AW1, my 645 (used from the day it was out) and my chest belt. Only some delay/lag on interval running.

My wife was happy to run with my old AW1, now she's happy to run with my old 645 (and she broke a lug ... "classic" problem. She found the plastic broken piece and I've glueded it: it works !).

  • Just went through this myself after months of thinking.

Eventually i went for a 6pro because i wanted maps and more music memory.

When it came it’s simply too big for running so sent it back.

Thought about a 6S but not enough benefits to upgrade from a 645 for me.

Hoping they give some details soon on a Fenix 7.

My perfect watch would be a 745 with maps and more music storage.

So for me, not worth it.

  • 645M -> 6S Pro

    Wins:

Music works on left wrist (pretty much the main reason I got it)

       Battery Life

Maps (came in really handy when I got lost on a hike 2 weeks ago)

       Durability

    Losses:

Instant Pace field while running is basically a useless Random Number Generator

       GPS accuracy seems poorer

Overall software stability of basic features was a step backwards (eg, took months before Broadcast Heart Rate worked).

  • Not from a 645 but I went from a 945 to 6X Pro.

The only reason why it's because it can display 8 datafields on the 6X due to the screen size / resolution. I'm also enjoying the long battery life.

I don't mind the size nor the weight of the watch. I was used to wear heavy watches before and I like them (and I'm a small person).

So far I'm very happy with it.

  • I upgraded from a 645 to Fenix 6s Sapphire. For me it was cost neutral due to some generous friends. Whilst I enjoy the maps I was perfectly happy with the breadcrumb trail style maps I could upload to my 645 and the range + bearing display when I wanted to find my car again.  I don’t use music very much and I find the display harder to see in some lights. I don’t really think the upgrade is worth it.  If I smashed my watch tomorrow I’ll replace it with a 645.

  • I upgraded from 645 to regular Fenix 6s (size/weight really matter for me), and my general reason was cracking body of FR645 (I've got replacement of 645 on guarantee, I read that it will propably repeat so I sold it).

I ride a bike, so I appreciate battery life on GPS (its almost twice longer), but on watch mode there is +/- no diffirence (i am talking about 6S).

Another nice thing is correction of altimeter during activity : it was really annoying to see 100 or more meters in elevation gain diffirence when you compare elevation by match and corrected one by strava even if you corrected elevation on start of you training (if you dont that was a total mess on 645). That could be repaired in last software upgrade for 645.

Fenix also have more functional and nicer widgets(sunrise/set, sleep etc) so I almost dont neet to use 3rd party some from connectiq, more activities especially for me swimming in open water, also i like more data fields on activity screen.

  • Possibly the FR945 would be a good choice for you. It is capable of displaying maps, has enough storage for music and a clearer display due to a/r coating on the glass, which the Fenix hasn´t.

  • I just took a look at the 945. For a $50 price difference, there are a few features missing I think I might want, and a smaller screen. For whatever reason they left all the golf features in.
