Cannot pair with phone

Hello,

Last night my watch restarted and it seems like all the data was erased because it prompt me to enter my information as it did when I first started it. Ever since then, I CANNOT PAIR the watch with my iPhone. I follow all the instructions and in Garmin Connect it even shows that my watch is discovered but when I click "Connect it" it times out. Should I return the watch?

Garmin OS: 13.10
iOS: 14.3

  • These steps seem to be the most helpful to fix this issue.

    • In the Garmin Connect app remove Garmin device  - More > Garmin Devices > select your Garmin device (fenix 6) > Remove Device
    • On your iPhone go to Settings > Bluetooth > select your Garmin device > Forget This Device
    • If you have any other phones still paired with the Garmin, also do the same on that phone - Settings > Bluetooth > select your Garmin device > Forget This Device
    • Restart iPhone
    • Restart Garmin device
    • Place Garmin device in pairing mode  - depends on model, but usually hold MENU > select Pair Phone.
    • Pair using Garmin Connect

Unfortunately, it doesn't work. I also tried pairing the watch to my other iPhone and the issue persists. Would you recommend I take it to the store?

  • Unfortunately, it doesn't work.

Where is it getting hung up? Make sure you're "forgetting" the device on all iPhones and mobile devices within Bluetooth range before you try to pair again, making sure to only use the Garmin Connect app to pair. Do not use the iPhone's Bluetooth settings to pair.

Would you recommend I take it to the store?

If the advise here does not help, then you can try to see if a different watch will pair. Or contact Garmin Support

  • . Would you recommend I take it to the store?

If the store is close by then yes, take it to the store.

  • Same problem but with a new watch. Will not pair with Connect or Express. No problems with my older models.

  • Definitely make sure you "forget" all Garmin devices in your iPhone BT settings, as well as from any other mobile devices (phones, tablets, etc.) within BT range. Put the Fenix in BT pairing mode. Then go back to the Garmin Connect app to pair. Do not use the iPhone's BT settings to pair.

Also, the video in my original post has been updated. See above.

  • Thank you. But as mentioned I spent in total a little over 4 hours “chatting” to Garmin support online and we tried everything on several devices (there was no problems with my older Fenix watches). We also tried using Garmin Express with as much success. I sent them the sync logs so hopefully they can figure a solution out.
Today I called Garmin to arrange to return the watch, not something I wanted to do because the last time took them 4 months, however the guy said it’s a known problem on the Garmin side (not my watch) and I should wait and try again in a few days....I have to say I’m rather sceptical given their history.

  • as mentioned I spent in total a little over 4 hours “chatting”

Sorry, I can only see your 1 other post on this thread. Sounds like a confusing array of multiple issues. Good luck.Fingers crossed

  • They did not say much about the issue only that it was known to them. I agreed to hold out until next week before returning it. Hopefully they fix the bug.
unfortunately I bought the watch in France so I’m having to deal with Garmin France for the return, to be polite it’s a terrible experience and I’m close to writing the watch off but I just can’t bring myself to giving Garmin €500! My old Fenix suddenly looks pretty good!
That said the Garmin US support has been great and the guys there really care.

This seems to be the consensus. It's a shame that the level of support is not consistent across the world.
