14.72 Change Log Notes:

  • Fixed an issue where the device was not recovering as expected after being off-course during navigation.
  • Fixed an issue where the device may display a blank segment page intermittently.
  • Fixed an issue where the HRM pro update message flow was displaying the incorrect status message.
  • Fixed an issue where the heart rate graph may intermittently display a flat line during an activity.
  • Fixed an issue where average speed during a Surf activity may be higher than the max speed intermittently.
  • Fixed an issue with bluetooth headset connectivity during activity.
  • Fixed an issue where Garmin “Power Meter” would be incorrectly labeled.
  • Fixed an issue where sleep times may not match times reported in Garmin Connect.
  • Made improvements for post activity sensor firmware updates.
  • Made improvements for Explore navigation support.
  • Regatta timer hotkey now redirects to Sail Race activity (MARQ Captian and Quatix 6 only).
  • Fixed an issue where ‘Do Not Disturb’ prevents gesture backlight from working during the sleep window.
    • Edit, 01/19/21: To clarify, We made this change because the Backlight "During Sleep" setting can now be controlled in a new area. Rather than "Do Not Disturb" automatically disabling the backlight gesture for you, you can manually select what backlight behavior you want to see during your sleep window. Please see the setting options via Menu - System - Backlight - During Sleep. The default for this setting is off, but you can change this if you would like to see the Gesture setting work during your sleep window.

Current beta peripheral software version numbers below. New versions are indicated in red.

  • HR broadcasting for virtual training is still broken (was working with 12.xx) - the app sees the watch as sensor, but no HR data etc. is received

I've just tested the Virtual Run app connected to Zwift on my iPhone and it's working just fine with my 6X Pro Solar on 14.72 (not just for HR, but also working fine for cadence, speed and distance). Have you tried a forced power off (press and hold the Light button, about 20 seconds, until the watch shuts down, then power on again)?

[After a bit further testing with the Zwift (cycling), Tacx Training and Wahoo apps on my iPhone, it is a bit more problematic getting things to reliably work when using the simple Broadcast Heart Rate function on the watch.  I've seen this before using a single purpose Bluetooth heart rate strap and the same apps on the iPhone; I think it's a clash of apps trying to access the same bluetooth sensor on the iPhone, rather than any issue with what the sensor is transmitting.  Interestingly I've just got a message on my iPhone telling me "Some devices are still connected to Zwift via Bluetooth. Would you like to disconnect them?" even though I'd swiped the Zwift app closed 5 minutes ago.  I sometimes see the same problem with power, speed/cadence and smart trainer connection, when I switch between training apps or switch from iPhone to iPad.  A power cycle of phones/tablets and smart trainers seems to be the fix...]

  • Installed the beta yesterday. Everything going smoothly.
However I did a 75 minutes trail run this morning, and for the first time I had a change in VO2max (51 to 50).
Normally trail runs do not affect VO2max... But today it did.
Has anyone noticed the same ?

Not sure it's a good thing if it does, cause F6 tells me my fitness decreased, even though i felt particularly good and easy...

  • Hmmh, will try that - I usually use Kinomap and it did not work an hour ago, but will try it now

  • Hello,

Test this morning of this 14.72 firmware, Trail race with guidance.
No problem found, elevation, guidance, etc.
2 hours of race, 10-12% of battery consumed, all is well.

    Bye

  • Thanks, that did the trick - rebooting and manually reconnecting watch to bluetooth made it work

  • Yeah; I think this is an iOS problem not a watch problem though (see the edit to my earlier post).

  • Garmin in other departments is excellent, such as their aircraft GPS systems, one of which I use. Now if Garmin aviation can get things right why cant their watch division ?

Give me a break. Garmin aviation products start at about $20,000, with most costing a lot more than that (plus the subscription fee of $75 or $150 per month). And they're not the size and weight of a watch.

If you're willing to pay $20,000 for the Fenix F7, plus a monthly subscription fee, I'm sure Garmin could make a product that lived up to your expectation.

  • Letting go of unnecessary controversy.

Fenix 6S Pro updated yesterday. I never experienced none of the bugs in the bug fix list, anyway all seems to work smooth and good as usual, no battery drain. 70 minutes of run today and I get GPS track probably better than usual.

  • Give me a break as well, think about it a bit. You either sell something that's expensive and sell a few of them or you sell something that's cheap and sell millions of them. Either way you make a lot of money that can go into R&D and QA.

My Garmin GPS was around $10,000 when new. Its 12 years old, there is no monthly subscription and it still works.
