Customize Font size on Notifications

For people over 40 years old, notifications are impossible to read. Maybe the designers of Garmin watches didn't know that humans when they are older than 40 years old, they start suffering Presbyopia which is an age-related condition where the eyes loose the ability to focus actively on nearby objects.

So, a Garmin watch is completely useless for somebody over 40 years old. If it is a sport watch, it is not possible to carry your glasses to be able to read something on your watch.

Is it so complicated to add the feature to customize at least the font size on the notifications on a future os update?

I’m 64. It’s not useless. And my eyesight is appalling. I am both very shortsighted and also long sighted. It’s that…

  • I agree my wife just killed her fenix 5 in a dip in the winter sea - very refreshing. Would replace with Garmin If font was customizable but is instead looking at the competitors that allow this.

I’m 64. It’s not useless. And my eyesight is appalling. I am both very shortsighted and also long sighted. It’s that bad I can not get bifocals so have glasses for ordinary use and others for reading. My eyesight is at the stage where I now lift my glassed to read the watch.

It’s the price of ageing and it affects all of us differently but it does not render the watch useless for everyone over the age of 40.

  • No, being able to change and enlarge the font size for notifications cannot be that hard for Garmin. They probably have teen agers in the Engineering department.

  • I agree! Also most of the numbers in Watchfaces are much to small, on all watches i own (venu, Vivoactive 3, Fenix 6). Not only for the eyes but also from a designers view. It also is a problem in widgets (heat rate, the tiny numbers, weather...)

Yes, i have glasses for work since i am 40 but it is terrible small in most cases.

  • Have you tried hydrotac lenses. These low cost reading lenses apply to every classes, I have them on my monofocal sport sunglasses

  • Totalmente de acuerdo. Cuando navegas en cualquier actividad con la pantalla de mapa es imposible leer

  • Agreed. I have been a Garmin user since 2007 and they have always had ridiculously small fonts in many places in their UI. Particularly in map view, the POI font is tiny and even as you zoom in, the font size stays absurdly small.  I had no presbyopia in 2007, unsurprisingly, I do now. Even with the large 6X screen it is tough to read many of the widgets and displays.

In addition to the stick-on cheater lenses mentioned by @thbrod, it's possible to get folding readers that slip easily into a camelbak, for example:

  • I'm in the same boat. My wife gave me fenix 7 as a gift, not realizing that won't be able to use it without glasses. She's using an Apple watch and it did not occur to either of us that an 800$ product could be so user-unfriendly.

I wonder when garmin will realize that their customers are actually aging and will have to switch to competitor products to just be able to read their devices? From my experience with other big brands, success breeds arrogance so I would not hold my breath expecting improvements. Just count all the answers from garmin on this forum/topic (hint: none).

  • I have the same question. I have never been able to upgrade from my Forerunner 35 because I can't find another Garmin I can read without glasses. My vision is good, but I'm at the reading glasses stage of life.

I'm an Android user. Galaxy 5 has a Zoom option, but I really prefer Garmin, if I could just find one I can read. It's very frustrating that so many Garmin watches seem to not provide basic accessibility for buyers over 50.
