A Course run is recorded as an Activity not a Run on Strava

I set up the routes as a run so why is it not recording as a run on Strava.

Assuming you are using the Run or Trail Run activity to record the run on your Garmin then it looks like something you need to ask of Strava.

How does the activity appear in Garmin Connect? Perhaps post a link so we can see.

Are you sure you selected a Run activity on your Fenix?  How the course is selected or identified should not matter as long as it has been sync'd to the watch..  I use course navigation all the time with courses created in Strava and haven't seen the behaviour you describe.

Actually I haven't.  I get to the course via Navigate and the scroll down to courses and there i can see the course that I preplanned on Strava. I then click on the route and go. I then follow the route, stop at the end and then it automatically uploads onto Strava as an Activity not a run.  So I never actually select Run on my Fenix.  When I run a route I know I select Run on my Fenix then go and then it does upload as a run. Thank you for your reply. Does that explain anything ? Am I doing it incorrectly ?

The right way to use course when running is the following:

Start by launching your "Run" or "Trail Run" activity as normal.

Then you have two options:

1) Before you actually start the activity press the "Up" button, then go to Courses, and then you can select you Course. Then press the "Start" button to start the activity and use the navigation along the way.

2) You can start your run as normal and add navigation later at any point - long press the "Up" button, scroll to "Navigation", then "Courses", then you can select a course to follow. Similarly, you can stop following a course at any point without stopping the activity or you can switch to another course.

In both cases your activity will show up as a run on Strava.

This isn't a correct way to use navigation when running. How your watch is supposed to know that you are running and not hiking for example? See my other response for more details.

Silent Voyager has given me an alternative route to courses.  It makes more sense so hopefully will work
