Weather is way off

Weather dongle is way off. Current outside temperature is wrong even though expected high/low is approximately correct. Fenix 6X and iPhone X. Multiple tries: rebooted watch, rebooted phone, started activity to get GPS signal. Location is North Vancouver, BC. Current temp says -16°C when it is currently 3°C with expected low of 3°C and high of 6°C.

  • Those data come from a weather service via internet - for Europe the data are mostly crap. If you want to use the potential of an outdoor watch, use the barometer and a Garmin Tempe, which is positioned outside or during an activity somewhere, where it is not affected by your body temperature or the sun.

  • I wonder if your watch thinks the phone temperature is Fahrenheit and then converting to Celsius on the watch.  3°F is equal to - 16°C.  Maybe just a coincidence?

  • Oh damn—good observation. That seems like a possibility. I selected metric units everywhere I can find an option in settings.

  • Thanks for your reply. I do use the barometer and the storm alert feature works well. The watch displays temperature and a precipitation forecast and it would be nice to be able to use them. Seems like pretty basic functionality. There are many threads like this one; I’m hoping the problem is has been resolved and Garmin can direct me to a fix.

  • Same happens to me. Current max and min 15 / 11 °C which match other forecast + the current temperature. However value given in the widget to "current temperature" is waaaaay off this range (-1°C)...

  • Any one has found a fix? I'm concerned it also effects the heat acclimation and the data presented whilst recording an activity, although I need to dig up this more...

  • It was observed somewhere in another thread that the meteo data comes from the nearest airfield. If you live near one (as I do) weather data is quite OK, if not, then you're sort of out of luck, maybe the accuweather widget might help/give more accurate weather stats?

  • We can always find good weather information in the internet (maybe not so good, but better than this widget), but if F6 uses the wrong data to calculate heat acclimation and VO2, maybe Garmin should fix it using another source of weather information rather than the nearest airport.

  • Garmin Weather and "Wind and Wave" just have absolutely the worst data sources and is so very dependent on where you are. But at least I'm not getting the constant 200+ kt wind any longer.

Right now Wind And Wave says water temp here is 27c .... (UK Brighton - outside temp 4.3c)

Wind and Wave says wind from SSE - wind is from West - Garmin weather have that correct for today - which is unusual.

Garmin should really have a responsible adult managing their external data feeds and do QC on the data feeds.

  • I don't think that is the issue as there is a big international airport close to where I am. What puzzles me and I think the originator of this post is that the range of values are close to what we have but the "current " value is way way off those values and the real temperature. I.E.: when I took that pic, the temperature outside was 14.3°C which is in the upper bound of the watch (14/11) but then in the watch, the current was -2°C which is absolutely bogus...
