Skin allergy from the components of Garmin 6X Pro watch strap.

I have an allergy at the contact of Fenix 6X Pro watch strap with my forearm skin. Skin is red , has the shape of the watch strap, has a shining aspect in the direct light and an easily sensation of pruritus. Anyone else with this issue?

  • I've had it in the past, people have recommended either tightening the strap or loosening it, I would also look at washing the strap with warm soapy water.

I also on occasion tend to wash the watch with an electric toothbrush (only when I'm throwing the head away as it's gone past it's best), this tends to clean the strap / watch up more than when I just use soapy water.

Finally I would be tempted to use something like vaseline on the strap, seems strange but I did that and that also worked for me.

  • Do a search in this forum, there are numerous threads around here about the same issue and Garmin is requesting you to contact them directly as they take this matter seriously.

here’s a link to one with the Garmin contact deets https://forums.garmin.com/outdoor-recreation/outdoor-recreation/f/fenix-6-series/230043/extreme-skin-irritation

  • I had this issue from both original Garmin and Chinese knock off straps. Seems to have resolved for me. What I did was coat the parts of the buckle that contact my arm with clear nail varnish (nickel Allergy), But then the thing that made the real  difference was wearing the strap a little looser, makes me think it was a heat rash. I suppose there are multiple permutations. Try wearing a titanium strap for a while and see if it goes away.

  • I had this with a Fenix 5S with the original silicon strap, a rash developed which I thought was unrelated so I moved it to my other wrist and then a similar rash developed there as well.  I tried giving the strap a good soapy wash and thought that was helping but a week later it started reappearing again.  I briefly tried a third party strap but within a couple of days it disintegrated and I almost lost the watch so I splashed out for a Garmin leather band and no problems since plus I find it more comfortable to wear as well.

What was odd was that I'd worn the watch for a couple of years with no issues so I'm wondering if something has got into the strap and caused issues since I've had to pick bits of plant out of it from MTB riding.

  • i have been suffering from severe rash on top of wrist for months. i have swapped wrists and it happened on the other wrist aswell. i have washed, scrubbed my watch band multiple times with no success ...untill last night ...

i used half a can of isopropyl alcohol spray and soaked the band and watch face in the liquid for a few hours and dried it off and I have worn it since and I have experience no irritation with my wrist after spending the afternoon on the Golf course ... i hope this is the solution because I love my watch ...it cost me far too much to sit on my side table ...

    Good luck !

Are you saying that you treated the watch with alcohol ? Flushed

because I love my watch ...

I wouldn't do that if you love your watch.
And certainly not treat it with alcohol for hours. You know that IPA has a strong degreasing effect, and damages both seals and the plastic of the watch? It pulls out the plasticizer.

If your watch is still under warranty, you have lost the warranty.

I can absolutely NOT recommend your tip !
