"Track Me" vs Run vs Hike

I created two custom activities for my different HIIT workouts, both are based on the "track me" activity. They are a mix of running and strength training.

My question is, what is the difference between Track Me, Run, Hike, etc.? The only difference I can tell so far is the icon, but I have a fear that there is a subtle difference that may lead to me losing out on some aspect of training metrics.

I notice my Vo2 Max isn't calculated during my HIIT workouts, but I suspect that is because I don't run for 10 minutes or more.

Will the Fenix calculate Vo2 Max for a Track Me activity or only for a Run activity?

  • You must use the Run , Bike(20 mins) or Walk for more than 10 minutes in order to get VO2. Won't work with trackme.

  • Track me is just a "catch all" activity for when you want to record basic activity information (the GPS track, altitude info, etc) without it really affecting your performance stats. It does record your heartrate and calories, but not in any different way than your watch is doing anyways outside of activities. Track Me does not affect VO2, training status, or any of those other performance metrics.

A good usage case for Track Me is if you want to record your GPS track when you're out on your motor boat, or taking a road trip. I also use it occasionally when I'm taking an airplane flight.
