New Fenix 6X Sapphire will not pair

I have a new Fenix 6X Sapphire that will not pair to any of my devices. After the initial unboxing and setup the watch did immediately pair to my phone, and I was receiving notiifcations however at some point the two became disconnected and it has been an effort in infinite frustration to try to get the watch paired again. I have tried the following to no avail:

1. Turn Bluetooth on my phone off/on

2. Tried airplane mode off/on

3. Removed/Re-installed the Garmin Connect App

4. Restarted my phone and watch

5. Hard watch reset

6. Tried to pair with several different devices: Samsung Galaxy S20+ 5G, Samsung Galaxy 9+, Samsung Galaxy Tab S6, iPhone X 64GB. None of these work

When I try to pair, the watch states "Initializing" but then states pairing failed while the app is still searching for the watch. The watch does not show  up in the bluetooth device availability in any of my devices, and I have tried to use a bluetooth sniffer to see if it is broadcasting and the MAC address does not show up in any of those applications. I am confused as to how this device paired so seamlessly then just failed and now I can't even seem to get a bluetooth signal out of it.

Software Version on the watch is 13.10 (6a3747c)

GPS: 4.80

Wi-Fi: 2.60

  • Did you check your watch power mode? Max battery profile does not broadcasting BT to phone. Also I suggest to check if you can your can pair your F6 with any BT headphone you may have

I suppose you tried manually with "Pair phone" under "Phone" in settings?

You may also remove your F6 in any of your phones BT devices  before trying again

I would also try a soft reset (Hold light button for 20 seconds, wait after emergency)

How do I check the power mode? This watch is rather unintuitive...After a soft reset I was able to connect a set of bluetooth headphones but I found other issues. When I open maps if I am in the bike activity the map is not where I am located. When I try to go the settings and change power management it won't let me change the phone pairing settings, it is all greyed out even if I make a new power management profile.

I tried all of these steps numerous times and still there is something wrong, I'm sure it's obvious but I cannot seem to figure it out.

Quick Update, after more hours of trying different things, I reset the activites and reset the default settings. After the reset, I got the watch to pair to the phone, but immediately after it was paired the status in the Garmin Connect App was not connected...nothing I could do could get it connected and I now once again cannot get the mobile devices to recognize the watch.

  • Maybe time to have a chat with the place from whence you purchased the watch if close by or Garmin Support as it is possible you have a defective watch.

  • exactly the same issue... super frustrating.. did you ever get it resolved?

  • I have sent you a PM message to work with you further.
