Race an Activity with navigation

I'm a trail runner and I like the feature Race an Activity, so I know how many seconds I'm ahead/behind, but the huge downside is that I can use the navigation at the same time.

For basic course it easy, but often for more complex, it's good to be notified when I need to turn or at least see the course on the map.

When I chose Navigate and then select my course, I see it on the map, but then the course average is used and it's hard to know if I behind or ahead.

Are there any 3rd part apps that support that, alternatively I hope Garmin should fix that?

In which case, perhaps set up a Pace Pro plan for that course with your time to beat, rather than trying to race a previous activity.

When starting a run: Select Training -> Race Activity-> Past activity or Downloaded. This should give you the screen with before vs now.

Yes, I can see "Time Ahead", "Est Finish Time", but when I navigate back to the map screen I only can see dist. rem. and no indication about the course on the map :(

When I select Navigation → Courses I see the course on the map, but the only average pace is being used, it's really useless in mountains.

But Pace Pro plans are not very useful for trail running, there are some sections with a steep climb that I slow even to 12min/km and often previous activity or GPX data from a segment are way better.

Would be really good to be able to see my course on the map, when selecting "race an activity"

One solution that I can think of if you are a Strava user - convert your entire previous activity to a private Strava segment, sync it to the watch (by starring it on Strava). That allows you to compete against yourself on that Strava segment and see it on the map at the same time.

You can use elevation changes rather than distance as the lap marker in pace pro.

Good idea. Let me add that you can create a Garmin segment for free and get to the same solution.

Also let me add that although earlier a pace limit if 8:42/km existed there are new rules nowadays:

"There are certain pace and distance limitations when using PacePro. This includes a running range of 4-20 minutes per mile goal pace and max activity distance of 150 miles." quoted from Garmin site.

And the good news is that this 20 min/mile (12:25/km) seems to be valid for the total activitiy, not for split pace, because I created a PacePro plan when a split was as slow as 15:55/km.
