How to rejoin a course

Hi

I have a course of 400km that I want to cover in multiple days. I do not know the distance I will reach the first day, so I cant divide the course into stages. Can I rejoin the course on day 2 from the point that I ended the day before ?

I performed some tests and when I start activity with the course it want me to go back to start.

  • What if you don't stop and save your activity at the end of day 1 but instead select resume later? I know that there have been discussions about resume later and activities that lasts very long so there are probably downsides but it may do it for you.

That is an option, but that solution will save one activity for multiple days to my Garmin Connect (and Strava) where I wish to have them split by the days.

  • That’s odd. To the best of my knowledge and experience it will resume the course from where you are, always. (I actually did it today and it worked)

I will do some tests gain tomorrow. Hesher, any specific sequence of loading a course ? I do eg. Trail run -> navigation -> couses -> do course.

  • If you stop the activity and select resume later, when you start the activity again are you saying it wants you to go back to start? I've done this before during a multi day hike on the AT and didn't have a problem. Stopped the activity on day one and selected resume later. Slept. Woke up and started the activity again and once I was moving it picked up where I was and continues as normal.

Edit: just saw your other post and realized you want specific separate activities. The only thing I can think of is to make a course in connect after you complete each day. Start it based on where you currently are and finish at the end you some point past where you think you'll finish the next day. Its not ideal but its the only other thing I can think of.

  • My experience has been that if I start a course somewhere after the beginning, it will "want" to guide me back to the start of the course at first, but after a short distance it eventually figures out that I'm midway through the course already and corrects itself.

  • I've a test course that is going through my house that I have to be able to test this scenario among others.

If I recall right, I tested it a couple of weeks ago with v12.20. Now on 12.77.

That was with activity settings-> Routing-> Courses = Follow course. Think I read somewhere that Courses = Use map always go back to start, but I never use that mode. What mode do you use?

In Fenix 6 I have only activity -> Courses -> Do course.

THanks for all the replies, I will keep testing because the scenario when the GPS figures out the position and then corrects itself to a course sounds right, maybe previously I had problems with GPS just aligning the proper position

  • I suspect the critical thing is can you resume an activity a day later. Clearly can do it with activities on the same day. I ride to work press resume later and some 10 hours later resume without issue. If you can't the next day,  can always record the activities separately and use FITFILETOOLS to combine the files.

  • Activity> ACTIVITY SETTINGS> Routing> Courses> Follow Course

If you are seeing Do Course, you are looking in the wrong spot.
