  • I now used FW 12.77 for 3 runs on 3 consecutive days, had my Fitbit on the other wrist to compare HR

Garmin HR was too high for my liking, Fitbit was on average 4 bpm lower, consistent over all three runs. Furthermore Garmin tended to show more HR spikes

    GPS tracking was very accurate

  • Garmin HR was too high for my liking, Fitbit was on average 4 bpm lower

Doesn't matter whether you like it or not. What's important is the accuracy. There's only 4 beats difference on average. I'd call that a good match.

  • very cool.

If you use a strctured workout, how does the PM5 behave? Does PM5 make a lap based on your structured workout similat to using a training structured in PM5?

Before I was excited that PM5 connectivity will allow to get power. But now I am super excited if also structured workouts work <3

  • If you use a strctured workout, how does the PM5 behave?

The PM5 just records the rowing; the watch doesn’t send any ‘instructions’ to the PM5 to create a split, so it’s not integrated. Essentially, the way things are now, the PM5 is essentially a power meter and speed/cadence sensor for the Fenix. I think lcj2 is suggesting here forums.garmin.com/.../1172256, at some point in the future, it should be possible to have the watch talk to the PM5 via a Connect IQ app using Bluetooth (rather than ANT FE-C) and that might allow for more 2 way communication between watch and PM5.

I’m just happy with the way it’s working now; the PM5 records in Just Row (or I might programme a single time/distance) and I use the Fenix to tell me to warmup, sprint, recover/rest and warm down as it executes a workout. For me, the next thing on the Garmin side that would be cool, is the addition of power zones and an indoor rowing specific workout type in Connect (like XC Ski has just got it’s own power zones). But that’s probably quite a bit of work for Garmin (and time is money after all), so I guess they will only do it if they feel the increased customer sales/interest will be enough.

  • Did you get training status and VO2max calculated for your runs as well ?

  • True, it is pretty close, but it is exactly the difference between a low aerobic exercise and a high aerobic exercise...

  • Yes, no problem - far too low due to the high HR, but calculation was done

  • yeah they fixed this now with the beta, VO2 Max is now recording again

  • Who is to say the fitbit is more accurate, all you are saying its that they are different, you have to compare against a known accurate reference source to determine that.

Maybe the fenix is reading 2 too high and the fitbit 2 too low, creating a difference of 4 ?. or 3-1 or 1-3 or 0-4 or 4-0.

You have two simple watches in front of you, with a time difference between them of 5 minutes, so which is correct ?. Without a reference source you cant tell.

  • Very true - the only thing I can say is that my 6x showed a HR rate at the same route with a similar speed which was more or less exact what my Fitbit shows me now - whereas my Garmin shows a higher since updating from 11.10. Whichever umber is true I can't say....
