fenix 6 pro run distance accuracy ??

anyone else having trouble with accuracy for Fenix 6 pro - it has been off from others around me using Garmin watches by as much as a mile plus less during a 1/2 marathon trail event - and almost 2 miles in a marathon i did recently - and yes is set for GPS + GLONASS - every second - etc - just about every run with it when I correct in strava it is adjusted -

when I have ridden with it - it seems very close to my bike 520 plus -

thoughts - ??

  • I agree, but you know, what’s the point of buying a 1,000$ watch when to get a more accurate pace you have to buy a 220$ foot pod like Stryd or paying a subscription to Strava to update the distance measured by the watch itself? A this point I could just run with a 10$ Casio watch as long as it shows a stopwatch and later on measure my run on Strava or Komoot once back at home, as long as I remember where I run...

  • i agree - that is kinda my point - if you are marketing these watches as essentially the best you can buy - shouldn't they be just about spot on - and not a mile off over a 1/2 marathon -

  • yes - the HR feature on the wrist is NOT ACCURATE AT ALL - but I kinda knew that going in and have a strap...thanks for the feedback -

  • For me, everything was perfect until firmware version 12.20. (Actually 11.75 beta was the best, from 11.76 it is a disaster). Track mode used to work great until I started to experience the GPS glitches, mentioned in an other topic. It is so sad that since the upgrade the watch each time measured way less distance than I ran in reality. It is not within the (+/-) 2,5% deviation that you are supposed to expect from a top shelf device. Yesterday I ordered a Stryd to lessen my sadness over the issue. If I only had known this earlier... I was a loyal customer of Garmin for years (4 watches, all with very acceptable GPS performance) if the engineers really cannot correct this problem this was my last. product  Garmin marketers, please do not expect any good word of mouth on my behalf until some miracle happens. PLEASE SOLVE THIS ISSUE, STAT!

  • You are probably the only one who would be satisfied with a 2.5% average error on distance measuring. That means >1km on a Marathon.
I wound not consider a gps watch sufficiently accurate for training or racing if the error is over 1%

In 2020 any gps watch with a 2.5% error in distance measuring is nothing but rubbish.

  • I guess that you feel that the problem is not the range of tolerance I can live with but Garmin producing that rubbish, don't you. The biased distance measured by the watch is unacceptable even for me. This is what my post was about.

  • 100% - sometimes I feel like they update a good thing too much - thanks for your remarks -

  • so here is an update from today - watch says I ran 8.3...I adjust in Strava - it as me 8.7... that is a .4 difference over 8 ish miles - really - ?? so every 8 miles you are off almost a .5 - seems a bit much to me -

so every 8 miles you are off almost a .5

No.  Any error you may see isn't accumulative.  Your next 8+ miles may record better, worse or spot on.  There's no set standard that says you'll be almost .5 miles every 8+ miles you run.  And what makes Strava the "Golden Standard" anyway?  Google "is Strava distance accurate?" and look what's said.

watch says I ran 8.3...I adjust in Strava - it as me 8.7
    almost a .5

Where did you get .5 from 8.3 to 8.7?  Why didn't you say this is an "almost .3 difference?

  • What is an accurate watch though? Are there more accurate Garmins?
