Problem installing TopoActive Americas North on European watch in Garmin Express

Hello all,
I am having trouble with a message in the Garmin Express application.


When I plug in the watch, it displays a message with the installation of TopoActive Americas North.
I have a European version of the watch and I have TopoActive Europe maps installed.

I get an error when I want to update US maps.
Is there any file on the device causing this problem?

    Same problem with Fenix 6 Pro Sapphire , firmware updated, still persist from several months

    No solution possible. It is obviously a bug in Express. If you have a European version of the watch, the Topo active Europe maps are included with the device. Not the topo active US.

    I had the same problem after replacing the watch: I had problems with this message and garmin pay was not working. Replaced the fenix again and everything was solved !!! It was as if the watch was of non-European origin in fact garmin pay gave me as an error: function not available in your region.

    I sent an email to Garmin. In response, I got:

    "Thank you for contacting Garmin Poland.

    Please connect to Garmin Express and check if it is ok now. This is an error which please ignore. This map is not available on your device.

    If you have more questions, please let me know, alternatively look for a solution on our website: support.garmin.com/.../

    Best wishes,"

    After this e-mail, the maps no longer appeared in Garmin Express.

    I suspect this could be a problem with the Refrubrished watch.

    If Garmin Express offers your Fenix 6 Pro series watch the 'wrong region' - the issue is almost always the watch and not Garmin Express.

    For example, USA customer exchanges their watch with our USA headquarters. It originally had North America mapping on it. The same model watch received, when updating the maps, Garmin Express instead offers Australia/NZ maps. The issue is with the watch itself.

    If this type of issue happens, we are able to fix it on our backend quickly. Garmin Express will then offer the correct map region again.

    Please reach out to your Outdoor Product Support in your region to have the issue resolved if it began immediately after receiving a replacement watch.

    that is wierd isnt it, i thought that with latest devices (including fenix 6) maps for all regions are included for free

    older devices (edge 1030, fenix 5plus) were entitled to map update only for the purchase region - e.g. if the unit is bought in europe you are stuck with only europe maps, unless you buy Americas maps for extra $ 

    but fenix 6 / forerunner 945/ edge 1300 plus are receiving maps for entire world, aren't they ?

    No. The mapping is one of the more expensive aspects of a device you buy. Which is part of why there is a price difference reflected between a standard Fenix 6 series watch vs. the Pro/Premium version of the watch.

    When you buy a Garmin Outdoor watch, it comes with mapping for the region it was purchased in due to licensing requirements. If you buy a watch in Europe, it will come with Western Europe. If you buy a watch in the USA, it will have North America on it. Those default regional maps are then able to be updated for the life of the watch using Garmin Express.

    I cannot directly speak for the Edge series since there are on the Fitness Cycling segment side, so take my comment on the Edge series as skeptical and reach out to Fitness Cycling Product Support if needing to confirm your region, but from what I have seen here in the USA, the Edge units are the same. They have a regional map for the roads in the region the device was bought in.
